We have been having a great summer in the High Sierra so I hope you've been able to come up and enjoy all we have to offer! It took awhile for this great season to arrive, but when it did it stayed put and has given us some of the best summers on record. The lake level is still high and here it is almost September! Highway 50 over Echo Summit was closed for a short time in order for work crews to replace the aging guard rail, but now work is winding down and almost complete, paving is done and it looks wonderful. South Tahoe High School Revamped!
Flashback to 3 years ago: South Tahoe High School is an aging 38 year old school that isn't able to keep up with the demands of the students of the 21st century. The sports facilities are lacking, football games are played during the day since there are no lights. Classrooms are much to be desired.
Roll up to today: South Tahoe High School is a great new facility funded by a $64.5 million facilities bond and $32 million in grants. The Stadium View Building houses state of the art science and math rooms and opened during the 2010-11 school year. The Construction, Arts and Transportation Academy Building opened in April 2010. The new high tech Arts Building opens this week and it soon will be followed by a new gym and Student Union building! A high tech non-grass football field with lights will great students this school year as well. For the first time ever, games will be at night thanks to hundreds of local donations.

The students of STHS are now able to roll out of the classroom and into a career in many in-demand fields, such as digital arts, automotive repair, dental hygiene and the movie and entertainment industry. The school is a proud addition to the South Lake Tahoe community and yet another reason to move to the region!
