How did you find Funktional Fitness? We were walking around downtown and picked up one of the cards hanging next to the doors. That made me aware of it. The Groupon is what made me try it. Paige Fleischmann Funktional Team Member since December 2011
"It's not easy living a healthy lifestyle; I know this firsthand. It is a lifelong commitment. I grew up playing sports and being active. It wasn't until my own health began to deteriorate after college that I realized I needed to get serious about getting and keeping in shape. By gradually adding fitness and nutrition back into my life, I began to feel better mentally and physically. Shortly after this I realized my passion and zest for life, and that is to share what I have lived and learned, to help others become successful in their own journey to health and wellness.
You name it; I do it! Running, biking, hiking, swimming, climbing, volleyball, soccer, and even RUGBY! I never want to lose interest or get bored so I love switching it up. Choosing what you LIKE to do, and HOW you do it is important; I can assist you in that critical part of getting fit, which will help you stay with it. I will focus on teaching you to execute proper form and doing what makes you feel good.
I am excited to share my experience, skills and knowledge to help make a difference in your life, the same difference I experienced and continue to experience, by making good choices and sticking to them. If you choose good health over chance, you have already begun your journey to the new you!"
Cheers to VITALITY in 2012!

"The No Complaining Rule"
By Jeremy Jones
I was recently returning from my Christmas vacation when I arrived at the DFW airport and found out my flight was delayed by an hour and a half. My initial reaction was disappointment and that I should complain to the airline company because the delay was going to cut into my plans upon returning back to Phoenix. However, I quickly shifted mindsets and realized that instead of complaining, I should appreciate the extended time I now had to spend with my Mom and Great Aunt. Little did I know that the airline delay was a great intro to the book I read on my flight home.
As I began to read Jon Gordon's book, "The No Complaining Rule," I quickly realized how this book and mindset directly applied to the situation I had just encountered. I was so intrigued with the book that I not only finished reading it, but I also took several notes and knew there were several things that I would apply to my life immediately. The two points that influenced me the most were creating a "No Complaining Zone" and focusing on the solution, not the problem.
I challenge you to take 5 minutes of your day just to listen to yourself and to others as you engage in conversation. How much of your lingo is negative? How many things that you say or share end up being some form of complaining or down-talking yourself, others, or your environment? Unfortunately, most of the time we don't even realize ourselves speaking negatively or complaining because it has become so ordinary. Here is where the "No Complaining Zone" comes in to play. Pick one area or environment you attend on a daily basis such as your kitchen, your office, your automobile, or even your gym or training studio (Funktional Fitness ;) and mentally mark it as the place where you will not speak, complain, or act negatively toward yourself or others. Challenge others as they enter your zone to adhere to the same principles. It might be hard initially but stay aware and try your best to look at the bright side of things, speak positively, and encourage and inspire others when you are in your zone. As this becomes easier to do begin expanding your "No Complaining Zone" to other areas you frequent. Introduce it to your friends and family members and discover the differences in your daily encounters with others as well as your new-found positive outlook on all areas of your life.
By creating your "No Complaining Zone" you have focused on a solution rather than a problem. Instead of being caught up in talking negatively about others at your place of employment you have now created an area in which you can encourage and motivate others by talking about things they do successfully. One of the easiest ways to think of a solution is to think about how you want to feel at that exact moment and create the situation that will encourage you to feel that way. When your energy goes toward creating a solution, you can continue to move forward and accomplish your most desired goals and aspirations. If your focus remains on the problem, you remain stagnant and often stuck in the same place.
I could have argued with the airlines about the delay and questioned the location of the airplane and what was going on, but ultimately I would have still been there waiting and arguing with high blood pressure for an hour and a half. However, I chose to focus on the solution and was able to enjoy a nice drive and conversation with my family before returning home with a positive outlook on the New Year. I challenge you to do the same.
