Nineteenth Sunday after Pentecost
October 2012

It's the Sunday we read about the "Golden Calf!"  Don't miss it.  It's hard to miss the implications of this story on our western lifestyle and unquestioned commitment to neo-liberal economic theory!

This Sunday is our Fair Trade Mercado, right after the liturgy. Come stock up on fair trade chocolate, coffee, tea, and more.

Also this Sunday there will be an opportunity to talk to Council members about the Sustainability Task Force's report after liturgy.

Prayers this week

In all things pray!  Please remember these petitions in your daily prayers.

For those who grieve, especially Bob and family as they mourn the death of Bob's mother, Carolyn Wohlsen

For the students at Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary and across the ELCA who are preparing for leadership in the church here and throughout the world

For the mediation process in which we are involved, that all may be heard and resolution may come

For all who have cancer, for those who accompany for them, and for those who research for a cure

For those who struggle with mental health issues

For our confirmands, Eva, Cole, Helen, and Gwen, as they continue to learn about God, their faith, and the church at work in the world

For wisdom and guidance for the ELCA synod bishops as they meet for their fall conference in Chicago

For First United, San Francisco, as they are admitted back into the ELCA on October 14

For "our" seminary students: interns Maria Anderson, Gretchen Colby, and Carmen Miranda and teaching parish students Brach Jennings and Sara Schultz as they engage their respective internship communities

For the victims of the conflict in Syria and the many refugees who have fled Syria to Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon, and Turkey

Sustainability Report

Last year at the Chapel's Annual Meeting on January 29, 2012, the congregation appointed a short-term working group to "create a sustainable financial plan for the Chapel."

This Task Force on Financial Sustainability began immediately to study the ministry of the Chapel and to put forth a realistic model for what it costs to do the ministry in which we are currently engaged in a sustainable way. Read more...

Church IMPACT

Elections are coming up soon and there are measures on the ballot that can seem nebulous and confusing.

Church IMPACT exists for  empowering and mobilizing people of faith to be effective advocates in public policy.

Take a look at their website for great resources for the upcoming election

Cal Performance sign-up

Thanks for all who signed up for Cal Performances this winter.

Dan Savage is coming up this next month, The Hard Nut in December, and Ira Glass in February of next year.

See who's going and sign-up for the most popular events!

Thank You

Our endowment team issued a grant of $500 for the Lutheran Campus Ministry Builds project.

The youth built three houses for families in New Orleans. Our endowment grant helped them to build the walls on which they wrote their prayers, so that the families moving into their new homes will be physically surrounded by these written prayers.
