Eighth Sunday of Pentecost
July 2012

The Bible describes us as being like sheep who need a shepherd. Come to worship to meet the Shepherd who, with compassion for us, teaches, heals, and feeds us.

Prayer List

Start a practice of praying for the Chapel community this week -- around the table before a meal, before bedtime, in the morning as you prepare to depart for a busy day. Use this list and remember those in need. We invite your prayers:

For those who grieve, especially Pr. John Frykmann who grieves the death of his beloved spouse Cheryl Arnold; Pr. Steve Sabin who grieves the death of his father; Antonia Campo and her family after the shootings in Oakland wounding three and killing one member of her family

For those affected by wildfires in the west and by the extreme temperatures in the Midwest and the East

For all who are recovering: Jonathan Partsch (healing of broken bones in his leg and wrist), Margaret (healing following hip surgery), Gregorio (Antonia's brother)

For those who have cancer: Arlene, Betty, Miriam Brustuen, Jennifer Doebler's brother Scot, David Robertson, Brian Stone, Ray Stumpf and Charlie Witmer, and for those who care for them

For Lucas' mother and Charlie Kurtz, both doing rehabilitation following brain aneurisms

For healing for Martha, JR, David, Foy, Steve and Jan, Ron and Rachel, Nathan and Erin, Laura Johnson, Jackson's friend Matt, and Troy

For those who continue to seek meaningful employment

For the DREAMERS on their journey

For Carmen Miranda, our intern, and her discernment team, Judy, Don, Sarah, and Emma

For those who are traveling and vacationing that they may be safe and enjoy their adventures

For the youth of the ELCA who will gather in New Orleans this week, that they may travel safely, be open to amazing experiences, and grow into the people God has created them to be

For Pastor Jeff as he prepares for traveling to Palestine and Israel

The story of the 20th century has been that liberal Christian traditions are loosing members, while conservatism continues to thrive. But recent evidence challenges this perception and raises questions as to the future of Christianity as a whole.

Diane Butler Bass, the author of "Christianity After Religion" offers an insightful exploration of  the question "Can Christianity Be Saved?"

Green Challenge - Water

This month's Green Challenge theme is water. Did you know that a lot of experts believe that the next war will not be over oil but over water?
