Fifth Sunday of Pentecost
July 2012

We will have our Fair Trade Mercado after the 10 am liturgy!

This Sunday we will hear about Jesus healing a bleeding woman and Jesus raising a dead girl to life. Many first-century people would have found aspects of these stories shocking. Come to worship and see what your reaction is.

Prayer List

Start a practice of praying for the Chapel community this week -- around the table before a meal, before bedtime, in the morning as you prepare to depart for a busy day. Use this list and remember those in need. We invite your prayers:

For our community

For all who grieve, especially

  • Pr. John Frykmann who grieves the death of his beloved spouse Cheryl Arnold
  • Pr. Steve Sabin who grieves the death of his father

For the chaplains and campus pastors returning home after their conference at Yale University this past week

For those affected by the wildfires in Colorado and the flooding in Florida

For all recovering from surgery

For those who have cancer

For Elizabeth Platz, the first woman ordained in a Lutheran church in the United States 47 years ago, and the chaplain at the University of Maryland on her retirement

For the DREAMERS

For Carmen, our intern, and her discernment team, Judy, Don, Sarah, and Emma

For Jennifer's brother Scot, David, Arlene, JR, Brian, David, Foy, Steve and Jan, Ron and Rachel, Nathan and Erin, Betty, Jonathan, Margaret, David and Sally, Laura, Lucas' mother, Jackson's friend Matt, Charlie, Ray, and Troy.

For those who are traveling and vacationing that they may be safe and enjoy their adventures

Survey Results - Social Justice

congregational meeting

Thanks to all who responded to the social justice survey!  We have reviewed the results and the Social Justice Priorities Areas will remain relatively similar for 2012 (Environmental Justice/Simple Living, immigration, and El Salvador) with the addition of Hunger Issues.

Though there were slightly different ranking for the social justice funding areas, the funding areas are identical to the priorities.

Folks are very much in support of providing general operating support, rather than project-based funds, because of the greater need for operational support.

If you are interested in helping the social justice form the process for allocating funds in the fall or joining the Social Justice team (we really need you!), please let Jen Afdahl Rice know (510.325.0096 ojenafdahl@gmail.com).
