Seventh Sunday of Easter
May 2012

In the gospel for this Sunday, we hear of Jesus praying that we be protected by God for our life in the world. We join with Matthias, the newly chosen disciple #12, to witness to Christ's resurrection. It is Sunday, when we experience the presence of Christ within the baptized community.

Join the Social Justice team at 9:30 Sunday morning for a discussion about our 2012 Justice Priorities. This is the first step in determining how we will allocate budgeted monies to projects we care about. In 2010-11, our specific priority areas were:

a) Environment Action/Simple Living;

b) Immigration

c) El Salvador Partnership.

A light breakfast will be served, so come and check out the Social Justice team and see if you might want to join!

Prayer List

Think about starting a "practice of praying" for the Chapel this week -- around the table before a meal, before bedtime, in the morning as you prepare to depart for a busy day. Use this list and remember those in need. We invite your prayers for:

For Bishop Holmerud and the Sierra Pacific Synod in assembly this weekend in San Jose

For Matt and Lee as they prepare for their confirmation next week

For David who was hospitalized this past week

For Betty who has cancer

For Jennifer Doebler's brother Scot, Arlene, David, Laura, Lucas' mother, Jackson's friend Matt, Pr. Jeff's friend Bryan, as they continue with medical treatment

For Celia and Jim Kelly, and Maggie, as they grieve the death of their daughter and sister, Sona

For Maura, Don, and Duane as they continue to recover

For our friend Troy and his mother, Donna

For all who struggle with eating disorders

For Charlie and Ray, who are living with terminal cancer, and for their families and supporting communities

For spouses, marriages, and partnerships; especially in difficult times

Support Religious Women

share women

Our friends from SHARE El Salvador invite us to take a stand for sisters and religious women who have recently come under fire from the Vatican.

In the early '80s US sisters stood with Salvadoran refugees looking for asylum, and their support led to the end of U.S. involvement in the civil war.  Now is the time to stand alongside them!

LVC Walkathon (Lake Merritt)

lvc walk

Join current and former volunteers, site supervisors, and members of the Lutheran Volunteer Corp Community in a Community Walk around Lake Merritt to support future LVC volunteers in the Bay Area.

Saturday, June 2. Registration begins at 10am at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 397 Euclid Ave, and the walk will start at 10:30. A short program and potluck will follow.

Donations can be made at the event or at the Lutheran Volunteer Corps website by clicking on the "Donate" button.

Youth, Faith and Family

Compelling new research on LGBT young people and their families from the Family Acceptance Project at SF State University shows that families have a dramatic influence on their LGBT children's health, mental health and well- being.  Explore the implications of these findings and learn how we can make a difference.

Saturday, June 9 from 12:00pm - 5:00pm
