Fifth Sunday in Lent
March 2012

This Sunday is the baptism of Vivienne Frieda Fernanda Grantham. Everyone is invited downstairs after church to a festive luncheon (sponsored by Vivienne's grandparents, Jim & Rebecca).  Don't miss it!

We will also commemorate Oscar Arnulfo Romero this Sunday, Archbishop of El Salvador, who was martyred on March 24, 1980 and remember the 30th Anniversary of the Sanctuary Movement (which started at our parish).

Think about starting a "practice of praying" for the Chapel this week -- around the table before a meal, before bedtime, in the morning as you prepare to depart for a busy day. Use this list and remember those in need. We invite your prayers for:

For Don, David, baby Annabelle, Joyce, Duane, and Bishop Mark as they recover from surgery

For Lent and all it invites us to consider in our life of faith

For Nancy our President and the new Council

For our confirmands, Lee and Matt

For Vivienne as she is baptized, and for her family

For Chapel children and their families

For Nico, Jonatan, Remey, and Lucas as they continue to walk across California for a change in our immigration laws

For all who are looking for work

For all who are in transition or discernment

For those celebrating birthdays and anniversaries

vigilEaster Vigil

At the Great Easter Vigil, we celebrate the way in which God's love & justice breaks into the world in new and surprising ways -- through word and promise, action and activism, resistance and revolution! This year we are reading from the Gospel of Mark where Jesus compares himself to a "thief in the night" who breaks into the house of death and binds up the strongman to set free the oppressed and tormented!

Each year, we select stories from the Hebrew Scriptures to be prepared as a part of the Vigil.  We've chosen stories about the creation, dry bones, exodus, Shoshana, the midwives Shifrah and Puah, Wisdom, and the deliverance of the messengers from the fiery furnace.

Help us out and be one of the preparers of these stories by clicking on this link.

occupyOccupy Good Friday

This Good Friday, April 6, the Ecumenical Peace Institute is sponsoring an Occupy Good Friday event at the Livermore Nuclear Weapons Laboratory.

The event includes a Liturgical Dance led by Carla DeSola and preaching by Nichola Torbett from the Seminary of the Street. Take a look at the flyer for times and location.

Alternative Household Products

The Green Team put together an awesome list of Alternatives to Hazardous Household Products

Many are easy to make at home and will end up costing a lot less than eco-friendly products from the store or even cheap conventional products.

Thank You

This lent we sent letter to congress through Bread for the World's letter campaign and we also sent $1,057.22 to support the ongoing effort to end hunger.

Bread for the World sent us a Thank You letter which highlights the importance of "expanding the circle of protection" to ensure programs to feed the hungry will continue.
