An Invitation to Prayer

Dear Friends,
A week from today we commemorate St. Luke the Physician. With this in mind, I invite you to prayer tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. The Chapel prayer group meets in the meditation space behind the organ for open prayer around the needs of the people of the Chapel, our community, and the world. As you begin your morning, consider taking a few moments at 8:00-ish to hold these pray-ers in prayer as they in turn hold in prayer the people and ministry of the Chapel, those in need within our community, and those people and situations in the world where there is need. If there are people or situations in your life for which you would like us to pray, send me an email-a name or situation is all that is needed. Details are not necessary; God knows the details. We will pray for them along with the others at the Chapel for whom we are praying. And I invite you to lift up these people as you begin your day. Our current list at the chapel includes the following:

For the important work of SHARE Foundation and for Pr. Jeff and Locke Jaeger and all the SHARE board as they gather in El Salvador for the SHARE Foundation board meeting, Oct. 12-18.

For congregations in our Synod in the call process, especially Our Redeemer's
Lutheran Church, South San Francisco

For our confirmation students, Matt and Lee

For Kim Hussan as she prepares for installation as the pastor of Shepherd of the
Hills

For Brian Ballentine's cousin Kevin who is very ill with leukemia

For Flora's cousin, Caroline

For April's Gene for whom death draws near

For strength and healing for Marianne

For students at Cal, BCC, GTU, PLTS, USF, UCSF, Berkeley High, and elementary, middle, and high schools

For all who are in transition or discernment

For all who seek work that doors might be opened

For all who grieve, remembering especially the Penumaka family and the DeLange family

For those celebrating birthdays and anniversaries

Formality is not required in your prayer; simply talk to God. If you would like a simple pattern to use, I suggest this:
Begin "In the name of the Triune God, mothering Father, Son, and Holy Spirit." Enter into silence for a period of time; whatever is comfortable, whatever your schedule allows. Linger in the love of God. "Listen" as people or situations come to mind; turn them over to God for care. Listen also for how God may be calling you. When finished, give thanks to God for being present with you and leave your joys and concerns in God's care. Go on with your day confident in the promise that God is with you.

Rich blessings and peace be yours this day.
