Training Tips

If your dog is having house-soiling problems, make sure you're cleaning up with a product specifically formulated to deal with pet messes. Regular cleaners won't do it. Make sure you use a product with enzymes to break down the organic solids in the urine and feces that cause the odors. Your dog's nose can detect an odors 100,000 times better than humans. If the lingering odor is detectable to your dog it tells him: "Keep soiling here!"

Grooming Tips

Clipping Dogs' Nails:
An important, but sometimes overwhelming, part of dog grooming is clipping nails, which you should try to do at least every two to three weeks. If is helpful to start clipping your pup's nails when she is young, using lots of yummy treats to make the process fun.
Dog nails have a "quick" that is visible as a pink darkening in light-colored nails, but invisible on black nails. The quick has a nerve and blood supply; if you clip into the quick, the nail will bleed and your dog will experience pain. Clip dark nails in several small cuts to reduce the chance of cutting into the quick.

Dragon's Adventures

Hello! I'm Dragon! I just moved to the Bay Area, and I'm exploring all that it has to offer for an adventurous pup like me. I'll be sharing info on a fun place to go with your dog every month. Crown Memorial State Beach This East Bay Regional Park in Alameda includes a dog park that is divided into small and large dog areas, a must for the safety of little guys like me! After taking the edge off your dog's energy by allowing him to run around with his playmates, the paved trail that travels along Alameda's shore is a good place to practice loose-leash walking. Dogs aren't allowed on the beach (no fair!) but it's still a good place to enjoy the fresh air, sunshine, and delicious goose poop.

Metro Dog's Quality Care Comes to You!
| | |
Metro Dog offers more than just day care, boarding and training for your animal family members. For more than a decade, we have been taking care of dogs, cats, birds, rodents, and even tadpoles in the comfort of their own homes (or tanks in the case of the tadpoles). We offer walks and overnight pet-sitting as well as drop-in house visits. We come to you! Our staff are licensed, bonded, and insured.
Private dog walks and group hikes through the East Bay Regional Parks are an essential part of Metro Dog's heart and soul. Many dogs are more comfortable spending the bulk of their time in their own homes but need a break in the middle of the day and benefit from the exercise and stimulation. Some become overly stressed in the day care environment or have a hard time with the amount of intimate social contact in the smaller confines of the yards at Metro Dog but thrive in the more open spaces at the parks.
Individual walks typically last 30 minutes. A member of Metro Dog's in-home services team comes to your home at an agreed-upon time, generally within a two-hour window (for instance, between 10 a.m. and noon, or between noon and 2 p.m.) to take your pooch for a leisurely, on-leash stroll through your neighborhood. These private walks - offered Monday through Friday, rain or shine - foster great relationships between the dog and the walker.
Group walks are offered Monday through Friday as well, and also start with a walker picking your dog up at your home during a designated time window. The big difference: Your dog will get an hour-long off-leash walk in one of the regional parks with up to five other dogs. This is a great option for social dogs with good recall who have lots of energy to burn. We strive to group dogs based on temperament, size and age, among other factors.
If you are going away - whether for a long vacation or a quick weekend excursion - and boarding at Metro Dog isn't right for your pup, you might consider having a care provider stay in your home overnight. Our service starts with an initial in-home consultation to learn Fido's routine and the ins and outs of your home-care needs. You then work out the parameters of the nighttime stay with the Metro Dog staffer, who generally spends 12 to 14 hours in your home, from evening to morning. You can also schedule midday visits to make sure your dog is getting important afternoon exercise and potty breaks.
Similarly, you can arrange drop-in vacation visits, if you don't feel Fluffy needs someone to spend the night or you have a pet - say a cat, rabbit or fish - that doesn't need the nighttime attention and security most dogs require. Schedule morning, afternoon and evening drop-ins - or all three, if need be - and take a little peace of mind with you on your trip.
You may know Metro Dog for its day care and boarding services, but we invite you to discover Metro Dog's personalized home-based services. For more information, or to schedule a consultation, call Metro Dog at 510-524-3647, and select option 5. You can also send an e-mail to info@metrodog.com. We look forward to keeping your pets happy and well-cared-for in the comfort of their own home.
