GEN-TECH POWER CONNECTION

Emergency Power News - June 2012

Greetings!

Eaton's Blackout Tracker
Eaton's Blackout Tracker

So you heard there was a power outage nearby, but you didn't get any specifics, and you're not sure if it will affect you or your business.

Fortunately, for those who have backup power, there's a new Blackout and Power Outage Tracker by Eaton Corporation.

You can use Eaton's new Blackout Tracker to explore power outage causes and impacts for your state or region. You may be surprised at how vulnerable the U.S. power grid is to power outages!

A utility outage is just one of nine common power problems that impact power quality and availability. In many cases, they occur within a building or facility and are not reported publicly. As a result, power-related problems occur far more frequently than what is shown in the Blackout Tracker.

So, when your power is interrupted, either from a storm or an issue within your facility, know that we're available 24/7 with emergency power. We can be reached anytime day or night by calling 800-625-8324.

Sincerely,

Michael Bonville

Tesla, Not Edison
Nikola Tesla
Nikola Tesla

Did you listen to the radio this morning, or watch television? Did you use your microwave? Did you look down to see how fast you were driving? How about the fluorescent bulbs in the ceiling, did you notice them?

On the surface you'll see little mention of a guy named Nikola Tesla, the most famous scientist and inventor in the world at the turn of the 20th century. But if you dig deep, you'll see who discovered the radio, the fluorescent bulb, neon lights, the speedometer, the automobile ignition system, the basics of radar, the electron microscope, the microwave oven, the remote control, and who discovered X-rays. In fact, few have ever heard of the guy. Nikola Tesla was born in 1856 of Serbian parents in Croatia.

It all began with Tesla's alternating current (
AC) motor. Tesla's mentors and colleagues believed the concept of an AC motor was impossible, but he designed, patented and built one - in the form of a flawless machine.

Many take this fantastic device for granted. Alive and well in every dishwasher, vacuum cleaner, refrigerator, washing machine, clothes dryer, air conditioner, and fan, this AC motor has improved the daily existence of mankind exponentially.

Shortly after the invention of the AC motor, his vision, relentless drive, and ingenuity gave us such innovative tools as radio and remote control. Just about every advancement in modern convenience is dependent on one of Tesla's devices or can be traced back to one of his 700 plus patents.

Nikola Tesla's greatest achievement was...  (complete article here)

Ask GT a Question!

Question:  How long can I store the Diesel fuel in my generator base tank?

Answer: Under normal storage conditions diesel fuel can be expected to stay in a useable condition for:
  • 12 months or longer at an ambient temperature of 68ºF (20ºC) or lower.
  • 6-12 months at an ambient temperature higher than 86ºF (30ºC).

As diesel fuel gets older a fine sediment and gum forms in the diesel brought about by the reaction of diesel components with oxygen from the air. The fine sediment and gum will block fuel filters, leading to fuel starvation and engine stalling. Frequent filter changes are then required to keep the engine running. The gums and sediments do not burn in the engine very well and can lead to carbon and soot deposits on injectors and other combustion surfaces.

You may want to consider coming to one of our training seminars or workshops where we discuss Diesel Fuel polishing, life expectancy, proper additives, and how all of this relates directly to today's emergency power generators. Take a look here for more information on our classes and dates.
