Quoting Electricity

| Our new Constitution is now established, and has an appearance that promises permanency; but in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.

The Turbo Encabulator
You may have heard of the infamous Turbo-encabulator. Then again, it's quite possible that you have not. It is a fascinating piece of a machinery regardless of your familiarity.
The turbo-encabulator originally appeared in a Time Magazine article on April 15, 1946. Amused by the jargon, the author wrote this classic description of the turbo-encabulator.
 | | GE's Turboencabulator |
He begins by explaining, "Work has been proceeding in order to bring perfection to the crudely conceived idea of a machine that would not only supply inverse reactive current for use in unilateral phase detractors, but would also be capable of automatically synchronizing cardinal grammeters. Such a machine is the "Turbo-Encabulator.""
He goes on...The original machine had a base-plate of prefabulated amulite, surmounted by... (complete story here).

ASK GT?
 | | Ask GT a Question! |
Question: What is a Transfer Switch and what does it do?
Answer: A Transfer Switch (TS) is a device designed to power a load from more than one source. In most generator applications it is used to connect a building's electrical wiring either to a standby power source or to utility lines. When source voltage is normal, a Transfer Switch feeds your house or building from utility. When power fails, the Transfer Switch connects the load to the back-up generator while isolating it from the main feed. Generator transfer switches can be manual, automatic, or a combination of manual and automatic. An Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) is used with standby systems and includes a control circuit that continuously monitors utility voltage. When utility power is interrupted, it commands the generator to start, disconnects the load from the utility and connects it to the generator. It then continues to monitor the utility for available voltage, and when it is restored, switches the load from the generator back to the utility. Once the generator is disconnected, it goes into a cool-down process and then automatically shuts down. Generac and other standby systems have a complete range of switches from 100A up to 2600A. Also, an ATS can be used in manual mode if desired. You may want to consider coming to one of our training seminars or workshops where we cover Transfer Switches and Automatic Switchgear in depth.
