Greetings!
Winter 2011 is now here, but many on the east coast got to experience cold and snow early with the Blizzard of 2010 dropping nearly 32 inches of snow in Elizabeth, New Jersey, according to National Weather Service estimates. This was the same winter storm that caused mudslides in California. In Arizona you may find a need to lean into the wind holding your hat from time to time, but not typically because of the wind driven snow. So, whether or not you've experienced the cold and blowing snow, one has to wonder if it's global warming or just cyclic climate changes. Being from the east coast, I can say that it was no picnic to experience a blizzard or nor'easter. There were times when we had to put snow chains on the vehicle's tires just to be able to get to the corner store. Shoveling to get a car unstuck from the snow wasn't especially fun either. Back then, we called global cooling - winter. And conversely, global warming was called - summer.
No matter who you believe or what scientific malarkey they're currently graphing, I'm sensing a cooling trend this winter, with a warming trend surely to ensue in a few months. Cyclic.
So, as we go headlong into the winter months, albeit mild in comparison to other fellow Americans north and east of us, know that GEN-TECH is here to help you stay powered up. Thank you for taking the time to view our newsletter.
Sincerely,
Michael Bonville GEN-TECH 800-625-8324

Ask GT?

| | Ask GT a question! |
Question: Why is the block heater important on a Diesel fueled Generator?
Answer: Whether you call them block heaters, jacket water heaters, or engine preheaters, these devices are essential to getting diesel-fueled generator engines up and running at full power in the 10 seconds that are standard for emergency power applications.
A diesel engine is a cold-blooded animal when the outside temperature is extremely cold. Not only is the diesel fuel cold, but so is the air coming in from outside. In a cold engine, the metal in an engine absorbs heat and makes it extremely difficult to burn the fuel/air on initial start up. The idea is to heat the block to allow combustion to take place at a faster rate on initial start up. Keeping the area around the cylinders warm allows combustion to happen much more reliably.
To some, an engine block heater isn't important until it doesn't work. However, a warm engine tends to exhibit less wear over time. Cold starts can be very detrimental to the internal parts of a diesel engine. So, keeping the engine warm is essential to proper maintenance.

I said Texas has a lot of electrical votes."--Yogi Berra " A lot of words in the English language confuse the idea of life and electricity, like the word livewire." --Laurie Anderson " Nuclear power will help provide the electricity that our growing economy needs without increasing emissions.
