Haiti Update

Haiti Rubble

In the wake of the magnitude 7.0 earthquake that struck on January 12, 2010, the people of Haiti still feel the strain of having their capital city reduced to rubble. While reconstruction continues, many Haitian families find it difficult to rebuild their lives. A majority of the city's population still live in tent cities, which cover the ruins of Port-Au-Prince. The UN estimates that 105,000 homes were destroyed, and 208,000 others were damaged by the earthquake.

Since January, World Care has shipped $1.5 million in resources, including medical and essential emergency relief supplies, to Haiti. World Care continues to collaborate with International Relief and Development to provide supplies to the region for the orphanages and major hospitals. We are currently buying in country to stimulate  the local community and to provide resources faster. We will continue to collect funding for Haiti and our relief efforts in Haiti will be ongoing.

In addition, we are currently producing a documentary titled, "When Disaster Strikes: The Challenge of Reaching Those in Need." The purpose of our documentary is to show you, the community, how aid donations are acquired at World Care and the challenge of moving these resources into a disaster environment safely and consistently over time. The documentary will feature footage of our World Care team on-site in Haiti during the aftermath of the quake.

The Tucson community's support of World Care's projects has been remarkable.  Tucson should be proud. Please continue to donate and support our relief efforts.

Sincerely,
