Foundation Announces New Funding Initiatives
2011-2013
On behalf of the nearly 20,000 students of the Northshore School District, the Northshore Schools Foundation has established five funding initiatives to focus our attention on for the next three years. These comprehensive initiatives were indentified as a result of the collective work of the District personal, School Principals and Foundation Board members. We believe that by focusing our resources we can make sustainable impacts on the learning experience of our students while building funding relationships with corporations and granters who share our goals.
The Five Funding Initiatives are:
- Advanced and Disadvantaged Learners
- Enhancement Programming (Health, Fitness, Art and Music)
- Literacy Curriculum Enhancement
- Science, Technology, Engineering & Math Curriculum
- Teacher Excellence
Stay tuned for more information about our funding initiatives, how they support the School Board Goals for the District and what we are doing to start making a difference right now. |
What a Difference a Leveled Book Can Make
"It has been great to be able to offer a variety of genres to read at all levels. In the past, boys in particular, wanted to read non-fiction books. I could read non-fiction to them but I didn't have any at emergent levels that they could read themselves. In the past few years since getting the [Innovative Classroom grant] funds I am able to teach students how to read non-fiction books, even if they are an emergent reader. These high interest books have not only helped them become better readers, but it has influenced their writing. One of my students wrote his own non-fiction book complete with an index and captions. I knew that he really understood the text features of non-fiction when he could write a non-fiction book on his own. " 2007 Grant recipient Grant applications are available right now.
