No doubt you have read about Governor Gregoire's recently released supplemental state budget. Under it, funding that reduced class size for K-4th grade was cut, and the Northshore School District continues to bear that expense. Despite the District's commitment to excellence, when resources are redirected to keep class sizes small, there will undoubtedly be impact to other areas.
We anticipate that the near future will bring fewer dollars for timely curriculum updates and drastic cuts to services that support our students. In this scenario, Foundation support will be critical to the District's ability to provide students with the comprehensive 21st century education they deserve and that the marketplace demands.
The Foundation has pledged to be a strong partner with the District, assisting any way it can, but to do this we need your help.
Please help us honor our commitment to Northshore District students and schools with a year-end contribution. Your gift will ensure that students have access to programs that can help combat the effects of budget reductions, including:
· National Board Certification training to equip teachers with tools to increase classroom effectiveness and student achievement.
· Leveled reader, English Language Learning and International Baccalaureate books to insure that all students have textbooks appropriate to their academic needs.
· Science and Technology equipment and supplies that provide relevant and meaningful classroom experiences for our students.
· Classroom tools for enhancement, music and arts programs that rely on Foundation funded Innovative Classroom Grants.
Now more than ever, community support will determine the quality of our children's education. Let's work together to make sure that despite economic conditions, our students will continue to receive an excellent education.
Thank you, and Happy New Year!
