Greetings!

Just before you turn your clock back, I wanted to take a look back and let you know what a difference you are making with your support of the Northshore Schools Foundation.

Thank you for being a Foundation Supporter!

Since 1995 the Foundation has funded over 281 grants serving almost 100,000 students and touching each of the 31 schools in our district.

Your gift impacts the lives of children each day by supporting teacher training and excellence and insuring that children have the tools they need to access the education they deserve.

Thank you for supporting our wonderful kids and the great schools of the Northshore School District!

Best,

Carmin Dalziel
Executive Director
Work Ethic, Empathy  & Unemployment
How one grant led to comprehension for a third grader at Crystal Springs Elementary:

George was a quiet student who participated in the small guided reading group in his third grade classroom. His reading comprehension was significantly below grade standard, and he struggled to share his thinking with the small group.

After reading the book "A Day's Work," by Eve Bunting, George showed amazing empathy and connection to the man in the story.   He was able to demonstrate his understanding of a family experiencing unemployment and wanting to take care of his family. This "text to self" connection initiated an understanding of the author's purpose and a comprehension of the intent of a story. The book was a starting point for George. From there he began to act as a role model to other students, showing others in the group about how to understand a story.

You put this book into George's hand, and many others just like it as a part of the Reading and Community Values grant that was funded during the 2008-2009 Innovative Grant program.
