Board Introduces the Inaugural YTA Technology Leadership Awards on June 17th 2010

The inaugural YTA Technology Leadership Awards are developed to recognize tech companies from the Region of York and throughout the Greater Toronto Area that have demonstrated innovation and leadership in their field; having developed, advanced and grown their businesses and in doing so further strengthened their people, the sustainability of the business and their involvement in the tech community.

The Chair of the YTA will proudly present the 2010 YTA Technology Leadership Awards to area companies in three categories:

  • Most Promising Start-up
  • Scale-up Company
  • Company of the Year

Member Recognition and Awards Celebration

Leaders from the selected award recipients will join us in a panel presentation to discuss:

  1. Their growth ‘premise’ – what goals, outlook, and perspectives did they have when setting out;
  2. The two or three most important ‘shortcuts to success’;
  3. One favourite ‘ah ha’ event or moment; and
  4. One mistake that they learned from and would warn others to watch out for.

Thank you to Meyers Norris Penny for supporting the YTA Awards program as the Platinum Sponsors of this inaugural awards program.

HR Impacts & Actions for the Scale-Up Company - Immediate Attention Required

Thursday, June 10, 8:00 am - 1:00 pm

In the last five years, 66% of Canadian businesses reported an increase in aggressive acts in the workplace. Canadians lead the world with Internet searches for the term "workplace violence".

The Occupational Health and Safety Act requires employers to have systems in place starting June 15 to appropriately respond when violence or harassment occurs in their workplaces.

Employers with more than five (5) employees must have policies, procedures and processes in effect to deal with violence and harassment in the workplace; they must conduct risk analysis and provide training.

At the BootCamp you will learn how to comply and will leave with templates to meet the requirements of Ontario Bill 168; Workplace Violence Prevention:

  • Conduct a risk assessment and workplace gap analysis;
  • Documented communication plan;
  • Clear, simple workplace policies and procedures; and
  • Implement the required workplace training program.

A must-attend for anyone responsible for a business with 5 or more employees!
