Helping children at risk, troubled teens, and families through mental health services and family counseling.

Greetings!

Think back to when you were a teenager. Many of us would rather not! The teen years can be an exciting time of self-discovery and growth, but they can also be daunting and stressful. Remember the peer pressure, the cliques, the teasing, and those failed high school romances? It's enough to give some of us nightmares!

River Oak teens deal with these universal teen problems every day, but they have the added challenge of learning how to cope with the emotional and behavioral issues that have resulted from their traumatic pasts. Because of these experiences, many of our teens have feelings of worthlessness, poor self-confidence, low-self-esteem, and poor school performance.

River Oak believes youth between the ages of 12-18, also called transition age youth, have unique needs that require special attention. As such, we provide programs and services that provide support, build self-esteem and self-confidence, and develop leadership and independent living skills among this at-risk age group. Learn more by clicking on the links below:

AT&T champions success in River Oak teens

Imagine not knowing how to perform even the most basic computer functions, and then using a variety of computers and other technology to create a multi-media project on DVD.

Imagine hardly ever saying two words in a group of less than ten people, and then having the confidence to make a formal presentation to an audience of more than 50.

Imagine thinking no one believed in you, and then realizing a successful business not only does, but is financially committed to helping you succeed.

These are but a few of the life-changing events River Oak teens recently experienced, thanks in great part to support from AT&T. Read more, and view a clip of the teens' DVD presentation by clicking here!

Jaleesa's Story

When we first met Jaleesa a year and a half ago, she was a teen in a world of trouble. She had been placed on informal probation for multiple assaults against her teachers, was facing expulsion from school, and was often sent away to live with extended relatives because of her explosiveness. Read more.

Navigating through the teen years is a scary process for any of us, but it's even more challenging for youth struggling with mental health or behavioral disorders. Through the support they receive from River Oak, AT&T, and other caring community members like you, these teens are getting the help they need to succeed in every aspect of their lives. With the support of the community behind them, anything is possible for these teens! Thank you for believing in their potential.

With gratitude,
