Helping children at risk, troubled teens, and families through mental health services and family counseling.

| Greetings!
We all have our holiday traditions, and with Thanksgiving just around the corner, yours may involve turkeys, pumpkin pies, and shopping on Black Friday. As you plan your gift giving this year, won't you please remember River Oak's children and teens by making a donation to our Holiday Giving Drive? The donations River Oak receives from individuals like you fund some of the most vital programs and services we offer to our children and families throughout the year.
Did you know that private donations --
not government mental health contracts --
are the reason River Oak is able to:
- Purchase cribs, blankets, and clothing for new mothers who could not afford these basic needs for their infants?

- Help low-income families send their children and teens to music and dance lessons, educational summer camps, youth leadership conferences, and other activities that enhance talent and boost self-esteem?
- Provide support groups to parents, grandparents, foster parents, and other caregivers to help them cope with their children's behavioral issues, which decreases their stress levels and increases the chances that these children remain in the home?
- Purchase gifts for children and teens -- to be given by their families -- for the holidays, birthdays, and other special occasions, when families aren't able to provide a gift?
Together, these and many other services provide perhaps the greatest gift of all to our families -- hope. Hope for a better future. Hope in a community that cares. By supporting our Holiday Giving Drive this season, we can continue showing our families that hope is within reach. Help us by making a donation today!

Featured Service: Parent-Child Interaction Therapy
Thanks to Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), Alisha finally has a permanent place to call home.
Alisha's traumatic history of abuse and neglect led her to develop challenging behaviors that were overwhelming her foster parents. They were committed to adopting Alisha but felt lost on how to manage her behaviors.
Alisha's foster parents received PCIT at UC Davis Medical Center and were coached in real time on how to respond to Alisha's disruptive behaviors. Using a one-way mirror and earpieces, therapists guided Alisha's caregiver every step of the way. PCIT helped Alisha's foster parents feel so confident and capable in their parenting skills that they adopted her before the family even graduated from the program! |
|
River Oak is pleased to announce the addition of PCIT as our newest research-based service, which will be provided to parents of children ages two to eight. PCIT will help to coach caregivers just like Alisha's foster parents on how to effectively manage behaviors such as defiance, tantrums, school/daycare difficulties, swearing, talking back, and aggression.
