Apply to Join the Interfaith Student Council

 

Rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors are invited to apply to join the Oberlin College Interfaith Student Council, a student advisory board to the Director of the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life, which engages in interfaith dialogue and plans interfaith programs for the campus. Requirements are a strong commitment to a particular religion or philosophy and demonstrated commitment, involvement, and leadership in interfaith work. Involvement in other campus offices and activities is a plus. Before submitting an application, please review the ISC Mission Statement which can be found here. Anti-Fracking in Lorain County Organizing Meeting

 

Wednesday, 5/23, 7 pm, Peace Community Church

About 45 people from Oberlin and other areas came to the three-hour organizing workshop at Peace Community Church led by the state representative of 350.org on Saturday. The focus was very much on statewide organizing, and some folks expressed a desire to have a follow-up meeting that would hone in more on organizing for Lorain County. There will be a meeting Wednesday, 7 p.m., at Peace Community Church, 44 E. Lorain St., Oberlin. Others who were not there on Saturday are welcome. 

ORSL Reception with Baccalaureate Speaker Daisy Khan

Come enjoy a more intimate conversation with Daisy Khan, this year's Baccalaureate Speaker, who directs the American Society for Muslim Advancement, a key partner in the Manhattan Cordoba House project and an organization that promotes a peaceful, harmonious interpretation of Islam coexisting with other faiths and American culture.

Multifaith Baccalaureate Celebration 2012

All are welcome at this multifaith spiritual celebration with music, prayers, inspirational readings and an address to give thanks for, inspire, and bless the Class of 2012. This year's address will be given by Daisy Khan, Executive Director of the American Society for Muslim Advancement, which was a major partner in the effort to build a mosque and interfaith center called Cordoba House in New York City. ASMA is also engaged in domestic and international programs to promote Muslim women's and youth empowerment and leadership and to deepen the discourse of progressive Islam. Sponsored by the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life and the Commencement/Reunion Weekend Committee.
