Worldwide Meditation for Oneness Day

Tuesday, 11/1, We'll meet at 2 pm and start meditating at 2:11 (11:11 Pacific time), at the OUUF office (181 W. Main St.), or if you can't make it to the office, join us in meditation from the location of your choice.

Here's how the organizers describe the event: "Countless individuals share the belief that humanity's next evolutionary leap will be achieved by collectively serving conscious evolution. They support the need to build a global community, restore ecological balance and encourage social transformation that optimizes human potential. Let us together reflect upon our own individual and collective part of the evolutionary process."

The organizers are part of the Evolutionary Leaders Circle, bridging many different religious and spiritual paths. We'll meditate for half an hour, and then have an opportunity for a short conversation before ending at 3 p.m. Sponsored by Oberlin UU Fellowship.

Film Screening and Panel Discussion: American Teacher

Tuesday, 11/1, 7-9:30 pm, King 306

The new documentary American Teacher (2011) follows the lives of four teachers who struggle to remain in a profession they love, despite the heavy toll exacted on their lives by the grueling hours and low salaries. Produced by Nínive Calegari and Dave Eggers, and directed by Academy Award-winner Vanessa Roth, the documentary is a rebuttal of sorts to pundits who portray public school educators as cushioned recipients of tax-payer supported benefits, extended summer vacations and low accountability.
