FEEDING THE SPIRIT
Fall holidays remind us to be thankful for many things: our abundant life, our family, and our community. It also reminds us to recognize those around us who may not be as fortunate. In addition to all the fun things going on this season, take the time to give back.

Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans and Acadiana serves a vast region helping feed families who are struggling. This winter, 37 million Americans won't have a meal this Thanksgiving. You can help by donating money to Second Harvest ($1 helps feed FOUR families!), or by bringing food to the many charities that help supply the food banks. Check out the site for all the ways you can help.

DISCOVER FRESH CRANBERRY SAUCE
cranberry relish
Serve up cranberries that are NOT in the shape of a can!

Are you tired of the cranberry sauce that plops out onto a plate in the shape of a can? We decided to offer up a variation on cranberry sauce. A sauce that, it seems, even creoles embraced as evident in this 1901 Picayune Cookbook excerpt.

This month, we scoured the Internet and found one recipe that we thought would go particularly well with a South Louisiana turkey whether roasted or fried. Emeril Lagasse comes from the land of cranberry bogs but knows how to put them to good use with the holiday bird seasonings we use right here. Check out the recipe here. You can always have a can ready if anyone gets nostalgic.
