JOIN US FOR A FAMILY FEAST OF CHRISTMAS TREATS!

Santa Claus

Niagara Symphony and Chorus Niagara collaborate in a festive celebration of the holiday season with a joyful spectacular for the whole family, including your favourite sing-along carols, fresh new holiday tunes, brilliant orchestral arrangements, surprise guest artists...and featuring John Rutter's ever charming Brother Heinrich's Christmas.

Rutter has created the perfect Christmas Eve bedtime story, narrated to music in the grand tradition of Peter and the Wolf and The Sorceror's Apprentice. Gather the children, light the fire, and listen as Niagara native and former CBC host Barbara Budd tells the story of Brother Heinrich, his donkey, and their magical meeting with the angels on a Christmas Eve long ago. The legend of the carol In Dulci Jubilo unfolds as you have never heard it before with Chorus Niagara and the Niagara Symphony setting the musical scenery, and the enchanting bassoon taking centre stage as Sigismund, the donkey.

Two carols composed by local musicians John Butler and Timothy Phelan will highlight the "Niagara Noel" section of the concert and there will be mirth and merriment to involve the whole audience!

ACCOLADES FOR TRIUMPH OF THE SPIRIT

Triumph of the Spirit 2
Soloists listen  as John Freund recounts his memories.

Calvary Church was filled on November 5 for an emotional evening as John Freund recounted his memories of life in a concentration camp accompanied by poignant musical selections and dynamic visuals.  The words of you, our audience say it all and are most gratifying...

"a simple thank you seems trite for a soul shaping, community bending, gut stirring experience of sitting in the middle of witnessing music, culture, society, and social justice coming together in real time - thank you - a true demonstration of the power of choral music..."

" The children's chorus also added a great innocence to the second half and they sounded so sweet. It was a great idea to include them in this particular concert."

"Painstaking preparations that allowed for such a soul awakening, show the commitment of the chorus, and the open connection and trust between director-chorus-musicians-guest, and ultimately audience, or in other words, all who shared this evening together."

"A group that traveled from Buffalo to St Catharines was rewarded with an extraordinary concert... the story of John Freund was deeply wrenching and never to be forgotten. Chorus Niagara is to be congratulated for choosing such important music."

NEWS FROM CHORUS NIAGARA CHILDREN'S CHOIR

Schedrik Choir
Schedrik-Chor, Germany

Chorus Niagara Children's Choir has begun the season with a wealth of meaningful musical experiences. The choir hosted Schedrik-Chor from Germany in October, and performed in Niagara Falls with the 25 young singers visiting Canada.

CNCC was also thrilled to perform with Chorus Niagara in the moving performance of "Triumph of the Spirit".

We asked James Galvan, a young man who has just joined CNCC this season, to share some of his thoughts on the autumn events:

..."The second concert that CNCC performed this season was the week before Remembrance Day. It was the scariest and most heart-warming at the same time. I have never sung with an adult choir before and I found it really fun. That concert was one of my best history lessons (sorry Mom and other teachers). I didn't realize that there was so much I didn't know about the Holocaust; it was sad and yet comforting to know how lucky we are that we will not have to go through that traumatic experience again. I think that the only reason we of the children's choir maintained our strength throughout the concert is that we were together and could support each other..."

CNCC is accepting new choristers for our 2012 Spring season. Ages 7 to 17 are welcome. The only prerequisite is a love of singing! For more information, contact::
