Dear Friends
Welcome to our stellar 2011-12 Chorus Niagara season!
I am very excited to introduce you to the inspiring, the passionate, the uplifting and the fun side of the choral spectrum we want to share with you this season.
We begin with Triumph of the Spirit...a stirring tribute to humankind's will to survive, blending the visual and aural testimony of Holocaust survivor John Freund along with a panorama of thoughtfully selected choral works into a profoundly poignant musical experience. You will be touched, you will be moved, you will be uplifted and you will be thankful you attended!
Home for the Holidays welcomes Christmas with three performances by Chorus Niagara and the Niagara Symphony in a merry spectacular for the whole family...all your festive favourites in new sparkling and delightful arrangements! It's a joyful stocking stuffer for one and all!
Premieres of new commissioned works play an essential role in our Chorus Niagara vision and No Mortal Business is this year's offering. A highly dramatic and appealing score by the renowned Canadian composer Allan Bevan, No Mortal Business captures man's eternal quest for inner truth through an innovative intertwining of Shakespeare' s The Tempest with the Liturgy into a powerful and evocative musical statement with narration by Stratford Festival star Geraint Wyn Davies. This, along with Beethoven's mighty Mass in C Major, all performed by the massed voices of Chorus Niagara and The Orpheus Choir of Toronto makes for a thrilling night of great music! Don't miss Beethoven, Bevan and the Bard!
And, for our grand finale...Deep In My Heart...a sparkling and melodic array of hits from those wonderful tunesmiths of the golden age of Operetta: Lehar, Strauss, Romberg, Friml, Herbert and many more! Swaying waltzes, toe tapping choruses and heart-rending songs are a guarantee to delight.
I hope this whets your appetite and spurs you to subscribe! Bring your friends...tell them about Chorus Niagara...you will not be disappointed! Choral music has the unique capacity to poke and prod our conscience, uplift our souls, delight our spirits and tickle our fancies, and this season we hope to do this and more for YOU!
Warmest greetings
