Greetings!
Welcome to another thrilling choral season...a blend of visual and
audio delights, the big mingled with the miniature and the serene with the
opulent. We begin with the
harrowing love story of Quasimodo and Esmeralda in the 1923 silent movie classic
The Hunchback of Notre
Dame... a unique pairing of choral singing and art film in an evening of passionately moving and
rousing choral entertainment. In December Niagara's favourite Christmas
tradition Messiah will launch four splendid new
emerging Niagara soloists in their CN debuts! March showcases our 'power of 100' in Sounds of Light, an evening of
sublimely ecstatic works for chorus and strings and featuring the exquisitely
beautiful Lux Aeterna by Morten
Lauridsen. Then for our May season finale, we Feel The Spirit as the 160 voices of Chorus Niagara and the Orpheus Choir of
Toronto join together to present the premiere of renowned Canadian
composer Imant Raminsh: Quaternity: A
Cantata of Seasons along with John Rutter's exuberant gospel and spiritual
suite Feel The Spirit featuring Niagara's powerhouse songstress Teresa
Holierhoek in her CN Concert debut! Our
Pride and our Passion is to sing! Please join us for another great season of
music, singing and sharing our joy of the choral art!
Sincerely, Robert Cooper Artistic Director

Star Wars ... Chorus Niagara "in the lights"

Members of Chorus Niagara gather around Sir Anthony Daniels (C-3P0) before their evening performance of Star Wars at Copps Colosseum in July.
Chorus Niagara Performs in Star Wars - In Concert by Trish Crawford I was 10 years old when I saw the original Star
Wars film and remember the experience as if it was yesterday. I recall being glued to my seat, eyes bugged
out at the spectacle on the screen in front of me. If you had told me at that moment, that 30
years in the future I would be singing parts of the John Williams score, at
Copps Coliseum, with a full symphony orchestra, in front of thousands, I would
have been incredulous. That is, however,
exactly what I did, along with 59 of my choral colleagues from Chorus Niagara
(bolstered by a handful of vocalists from Orpheus Choir and CN's Side By Side
Chorale) and it was an electrifying experience! Read More

WORLD CHORAL GAMES 2010 Shaoxing, China

This summer, Chorus Niagara Artistic Director, Robert Cooper attended the World Choral Games in China as an adjudicator. His reflections follow:
"The
World Sings in Unison the Song of Harmony!" Everywhere you looked banners, posters, public gardens and billboards
all proclaimed the unifying bond of choral music to everyday life! Peace,
Harmony, Participation, Honour, and Pride may be just words...but this summer in
Shaoxing they became the rallying cry for 20,000 choristers to celebrate their
unifying force through song. Read More

"Topsy Turvy" Performance a Huge Success!
The triumphant finale of our Gilbert and Sullivan Extravaganza!
 | The 2009/2010 season concluded with a BANG in May at the Sean O'Sullivan Theatre, Brock University as Chorus Niagara presented a Gilbert and Sullivan Extravaganza. Under the direction of Robert Cooper and Virginia Reh, accompanied by the Niagara Symphony Orchestra and several stellar soloists, the Chorus stepped out of their usual "box" and thrilled the audience with not only powerful singing, but zany theatre as well. The lyrics of a few original G&S classics were updated by Jo Henderson and Jeff Baker to reflect local issues and to promote the new Centre for the Arts. Reaction from you, the audience was great..." What an amazing performance!"..."a newly discovered gem!"..."I loved seeing the chorus in action without their music!". Thanks to everyone; performers, volunteers and audience for another successful season! More pictures... |

Audition Jitters
By
Joan Medina As
I sat nervously awaiting my audition with Chorus Niagara several years ago, the
most beautiful operatic voice floated from beyond the closed door. "I wonder who THAT is," I asked the woman
sitting beside me. "Oh, she's my friend
and I came along to offer her moral support!" It was all I could do to keep from walking out! I love to sing, and like many others had
grown up singing in choirs. But I had no
formal voice training and right then was feeling more than inadequate and out
of my league. Read More
