What are the most significant changes in 2011 in the Health Industry?
|
The Health Care Reform is still in full swing. Starting January 2011 all Individual Insurance companies are offering health care reform compliant plans. Group Insurance switched their plans in March of 2010. We now enjoy great benefits such as unlimited life time coverage, preventive care at no cost and guaranteed issue for children. But these new benefits are coming at a price. Reviewing the new plans, premiums have increased about 10 % across the insurance carriers, this is in addition to the regular yearly increases. Only Cigna grants a 12 months rate guarantee, and all other insurance carriers will adjust their rates quarterly or semi-annually in the Individual Market. For 2011, the government is requiring, that the medical loss ratio for insurance companies has to be 0.80 in the individual and small group insurance market. As a consequence all agent commissions for the individual market will be cut in half for 2011.
