Whooping Cough ( Pertussis) is now in Epidemic in CA
whooping coughThe Director of the Department of Public Health (SDPH) is urging Californians to get vaccinated now.  He warned that the state is on pace to suffer the most illness and death due to pertussis (whooping cough) in 50 years.

Pertussis is a highly contagious disease. Non-immunized or incompletely immunized young infants are particularly vulnerable. Pertussis is a cyclical disease. Cases tend to peak every 5 years A. typical case of pertussis in children and adults starts with a cough and runny nose for one to two weeks, followed by weeks to months of rapid coughing fits that sometimes end with a whooping sound. Fever is rare.
