About Us

Willamette West Habitat for Humanity incorporated on October 12, 1988 as the 350th U.S. affiliate of Habitat for Humanity. By late 1990, our territory included west Portland, and the affiliate consisted entirely of volunteers, occupying a small rented office in Multnomah. We owned a steeply sloping lot in SW Portland, and had a set of house plans.

Today Willamette West has four paid staff members, a very active 17-member board of directors, and a dozen specialized committees ranging from site development to family selection, family partnering, and faith relations.Equal Opportunity Housing logo

With your help we have placed 68 families in homes (53 since 2000) and you have helped 100 adults and 200  kids escape the circle of poverty and achieve a better life.

Willamette West Habitat, Portland Habitat, Vancouver Habitat and the Portland & Vancouver ReStores now have a joint Facebook page.  Become a fan and see what is happening all over the metro area with Habitat for Humanity.

New Volunteer Recruitment Meetings

When people think of Habitat for Humanity, they think of pounding nails and raising walls - which is great, we can't sell homes until we build homes - but there are a lot of other volunteer opportunities available to those who don't want to come out to the construction site.

On February 10th, we will be holding an open house for those interested in learning about those other volunteer opportunities.
  • Do you want to help us pick the families that get into the program?
  • Do you want to help mentor the families after they are chosen?
  • Love going to fairs, festivals & trade shows?
  • Are you a former speech team member wanting to get back in front of a crowd?
  • Maybe you'd like to find a way to encourage your church to get involved?
  • Perhaps you just are looking for something meaningful to do to help someone in need.
If any of these describe you, then this is your opportunity to discover how you can change someone's life in 2011.

Come to our open house on Thursday, February 10, from 6-7pm and learn about volunteer opportunities on the Homeowner Selection, Homeowner Partnering, and Faith Relations committees.  Or how to become a Habitat Ambassador.  Learn about volunteering at the Washington County ReStore, joining the Board of Directors, and yes, if you are interested, how you can come out and pound some nails.

No RSVP necessary, just show up (you could bring a friend, too) we'd love to see you.

Meeting location:  Willamette West Habitat for Humanity.  5293 NE Elam Young Pkwy, #140.  Hillsboro OR 97124

You Choose:  Breakfast or Lunch?
Breakfast Logo

Each year we continue to be honored at the passion and generosity of our donors and volunteers which is evident at our annual fundraising breakfast held in May.  In year one, we over-filled the 2nd largest venue in Washington County.  In year two, we moved to the largest facility in the county and gave ourselves a little breathing room.  But no, by year three, you had filled that one to near capacity as well.
So, how could we grow the event in our forth year?  Split it in two and hold a breakfast AND a lunch on the same day of course!

We are so excited to offer this great option to our donors and friends.  For those of you who are not 'morning people' or have early morning conflicts, we will be holding a lunch from 12:00pm - 1:00pm (check-in at 11:30); for those of you who spring out of bed at the crack of dawn, or find it impossible to get away once the work day has begun, the breakfast will be back from 7:30am-8:30am (check-in at 7:00).

BOTH events will be held on Tuesday, May 17th in the Embassy Suites Hotel Ball rooms.  KC Cowan will be back as our emcee at the breakfast, and Drew Carney will emcee the luncheon.  It doesn't matter which one you attend, you'll still hear heartwarming stories of courage and hope from families who have taken their first step towards a new life - a new life you can help them achieve with your generous gifts.

So mark your calendar and start talking to your friends.  The Smith family has once again pledged a dollar-for-dollar match for all donations of $125 or more, up to $25,000.  Last year we raised $151,000 and are looking to beat it in 2011.
Now Arriving:  The Washington County ReStore!

We've been teasing you for months now - and trust us, we could barely contain our excitement - but now we can tell you:  Washington County is getting its own ReStore!

Located on the corner of Millikan Way and Hocken in Beaverton, it is currently being painted, prepared and stocked with the kind of items you have come to expect to find at a Habitat ReStore.  You now have a place to donate items to be re-sold to the public, you can go shopping for just the right home improvement items, and the "profit" from the store comes right back to Habitat.  Everyone wins!

Don't worry, we'll tell you when the grand opening is so you can go check it out.  In the mean time, if you missed the story KGW did on it, you can view it HERE..

If you or your company have items to donate, you can call 503-906-3823.  If you want to volunteer in the store, you can come to our Volunteer Recruitment Open House on February 10th, or visit their Volunteer sign-up page.
