In early February our End of Year letters will be mailed to everyone who made a gift or in-kind contribution to Willamette West Habitat for Humanity in 2009. These letters are not for your tax filing; you should have received an acknowledgement letter for tax purposes when your gift was received. Kids are Shining Stars During
Season of Giving
Justin Chang (below left) and Logan Holt (below right), 5th grade students at Cooper Mountain Elementary School, participated in a program in December called 'Challenge To Care'. Teacher Allie Roth received a grant from the Beaverton Education Foundation to give each child in her class $20, challenging them to make it grow. Both boys choose Willamette West Habitat as their charity. They talked to family, friends and neighbors about Habitat's mission and encouraged them to match the $20 donation. Justin brought in the donations he had received - with more arriving throughout December - totalling nearly $200.00. Logan presented executive director Mark Forker with the $800.00 he had collected.
Meanwhile, the kids at Gaarde Christian School once again counted items in their homes and put money into a special Habitat piggy bank, presenting us with a whopping $1,134.32, and surpassing last years donation. The kids at St. Pius X Church also did the bank project, bringing in $200.20; and while the kids at the Madeleine Parish haven't counted their change yet, the wheelbarrow is getting full and on display for all to see!
If these children are our future, we are truly blessed.

You Adults are Pretty Awesome as Well!
Generous donors, and people moved by the mission of Willamette West Habitat for Humanity, came out of the woodwork in December during our annual Holiday Appeal. We were excited to receive double the number of gifts compared to December 2008. Not only did we exceed our goal of $25,000, we blew the top of with over $34,000! Since we exceeded our goal, volunteers Scott & Twylla Smith will be donating the full $25,000 match, bringing our total to $59,000 raised in December. That money will go along way to helping us finish the houses at Vance Place in 2010, and move on to our next neighborhood this summer. |

About Us
Willamette West Habitat for Humanity incorporated on October 12, 1988 as the 350th U.S. affiliate of Habitat for Humanity. By late 1990, our territory included west Portland, and the affiliate consisted entirely of volunteers, occupying a small rented office in Multnomah. We owned a steeply sloping lot in SW Portland, and had a set of house plans.
Today Willamette West has four paid staff members, a very active 17-member board of directors, and a dozen specialized committees ranging from site development to family selection, family partnering, and faith relations.
With your help we have completed 55 homes (40 since 2000) and you have helped 89 adults and 165 kids escape the circle of poverty and achieve a better life.
