Greetings!

Welcome to our new, monthly, electronic newsletter.  We know you are a supporter of Willamette West Habitat for Humanity, and are excited to share our updates and successes on a more regular basis.

Feel free to forward this to anyone you know who is interested in our mission, and visit our newly re-designed, updated website for photos, videos, links and information.  And as always, thank you for everything you do for our families.

American Dream...Achieved!

Willamette West volunteers outdid themselves this year, building not one but two houses in only 141 days! These two houses are now occupied by the Valois family and the Osman family who were very excited to spend the day that celebrates America's independence, celebrating their own independence and achievement of the American Dream.Osmans Sign

Oregon Volunteers:

#2 in the Nation,
#1 in Willamette West Hearts

A report released in July by the Federal Corporation for National and Community Service named the Portland metro area as second in the nation among large cities for volunteerism by its citizens. The statistical area, covering seven counties in northwest Oregon and southwest Washington, recognized that 36.7% of residents volunteered an average of 47.1 hours per year.

If you were one of our 1,300+ volunteers, congratulations - you helped contribute to this national record by collectively putting in over 25,000 hours for us in the past 12 months. That's a value of over $515,000 according to the Independent Sector's volunteer valuation calculator.

Willamette West could never accomplish what it does without our volunteers.  Please check out our summer newsletter to find a list of our volunteers as well as quotes from some of our "seasoned regulars."  If you see anyone listed you know, be sure to thank them the next time you see them.

And if you are one of our volunteers - THANK YOU!

About Us

Willamette West Habitat for Humanity incorporated on September 28, 1988 as the 350th U.S. affiliate of Habitat for Humanity. By late 1990, our territory included west Portland, and the affiliate consisted entirely of volunteers, occupying a small rented office in Multnomah. We owned a steeply sloping lot in SW Portland, and had a set of house plans.

Today Willamette West has four paid staff members, a very active 15-member board of directors, and a dozen specialized committees ranging from site development to family selection, family partnering, and faith relations.Equal Opportunity Housing logo

With your help we have completed 53 homes (38 since 2000) and you have helped 89 adults and 165 kids escape the circle of poverty and achieve a better life.
