Update on Fire Restrictions
& Other Prescott National
Forest News

PRESCOTT, AZ (July 20, 2010) - Continued moisture and high humidity have sufficiently lowered fire danger levels throughout the Prescott National Forest allowing officials to lift current fire restrictions on Wednesday, July 21 at 8 a.m.

Forest officials would like to remind visitors to be safe when recreating on the Forest.  Always use caution with all campfires; never leave your campfire unattended and ensure your fire is completely out before leaving.

For current information on fire restrictions, closures or wildfires on the Prescott National Forest, call 928-777-5799, or visit http://www.fs.fed.us/r3/prescott.  For further information about fire restrictions on public lands in Arizona and New Mexico, call toll free 1-877-864-6985 or visit http://gacc.nifc.gov/swcc/

------------------------------------------------------

Hi everyone!

You may receive notice in other ways, but I wanted to be sure that you know about a couple of things related to the Prescott National Forest
Plan Revision.

First, we have posted DRAFT 3 of the Revised Forest Plan on the Prescott National Forest website:
The link is found below.

http://www.fs.fed.us/r3/prescott/plan-revision/revised-fp-draft-3.shtml

DRAFT 3 includes all six planned chapters for the Revised Forest Plan.

The information on the web page gives you a brief explanation of what to expect in each chapter.

If you don't have much time, I'd encourage you to read the Objectives--Chapter 3.  It's short and gives you an idea of what we think needs to be done to get us nearer our desired conditions.

Read Chapter 5--Management Area Direction, Chapter 2 pp. 29-30, and Chapter 4 pp.11-17 if you want to see proposed direction for recreation
management. Chapter 6--Monitoring and Evaluation is brand new and could use your
suggestions for better ways to determine if activities listed in objectives are getting us nearer our desired conditions.

Second:  We have scheduled public meetings for August 3 in Prescott and August 5 in Verde Valley.

The goal of these meetings is to listen to your comments and answer any questions you have after you have a chance to review the DRAFT 3 documents.  We also want to hear your suggestions so that we can incorporate them  into our proposed revised Forest Plan or whether we might develop an alternative to what you see in DRAFT 3.

We expect the public meetings to be in a open house format, with stations for various topics or issues.  This will be the first time that our initial information on potential wilderness evaluation will be available with maps and documentation.  See the attached for more details on times and locations.

Thank you ahead of time for your interest in the Forest Plan Revision process.  Please pass this notice along to your contacts so that all those who are interested can be involved.
