Update on the rash of property break-ins and thefts in and around Crown King
Greetings!

As many of you know, there have been a total of 3 break-ins of cabins within the past three months, two on Torpedo and one on Towers Road.

The first happened on Torpedo in April, with the subsequent burglaries happening the weekend of June 5.

According to the investigating Deputy Sheriff, there is a similar pattern to all three: The cabins belong to people that do not live in Crown King and do not visit the community very often. The items being taken are typical of property break-ins. The items range from electronics, jewelry and other things that can be  easily sold privately or to pawnshops.

In addition, it has been reported that additional items of 'household' goods are being taken, as well. They include toilet paper, paper towels, cleaning supplies, kitchen supplies and anything else that is available. The thieves break in and take everything in sight, open all of the cupboards, drawers and closets, which means that they spend a fair amount of time in the property during the robbery.

The Deputy also recommends that we, as citizens be more alert, as the response time from the Sheriff Department can be as much as 2 hours.

By being an aware citizen, we can all protect each other's property. Here are some guide lines that can help you protect yourself and the neighbors around you.

  • Leave your homes locked and secure. Ensure that all windows and doors are closed and locked.
  • Know your neighbors and exchange cell and phone numbers.
  • Stay on the watch-out for suspicious looking vehicles parked on or in proximity to your neighbor's property for an unusual length of time.
  • Watch out for flashlights at all hours of the evening in and around your property or your neighbors.
  • Ask your neighbors to keep a watch on your property while you are away.
  • Install a security system that suits your particular needs. If you have any recommendations please let us know.
  • Immediately install outside motion lights on your property and grounds. If you have any recommendations please let us know.
  • Take photos of your rooms and possessions. Property should be marked for identification. Record this info and other serial numbers.
We can all help each other and assist the local law enforcement authorities put an end to these crimes. The Community Association is in close contact with the Sheriff's department and are in the process of setting up a community meeting with this agency in the near future.
