Welcome to the Crown King Community Association (CKCA) and our e-Newsletter
| The Crown King Community Association Newsletter is intended to inform
those within as well as outside the Crown King Community on past,
current, & upcoming issues, activities, and events. Its contents

encourage your input by the 15th of the month. Throughout this e-newsletter, you can click on photos, events, or issues to be re-directed to other websites for more information. You can also print this email, forward it to a friend, or view the web version through the link at the top. It is imperative to make sure we have your correct email information. How to do this: If you change your email or want to use/add a different one please contact Peg or use the "update profile/email address" link at the bottom of every email. Crown King Fire Department

The holiday season is a joyous time of year. Spending time with family and friends reminds us of what is truly important. However, home safety hazards associated with the holidays can lead us to letting our guard down if we are not careful. Please take a few moments to ensure the safety of your loved ones by visiting http://fire.nist.gov/tree_fire.htm for
information, graphic video examples of some of the hazards associated
with Christmas tree fires, and steps you can take to mitigate these
hazards. Many other safety tips can be found atwww.nfpa.org/holiday. The Fire Department's web site has moved. Please visit our new and improved site at http://www.crownkingfire.org/. While you are there please consider taking our performance survey. This survey will be used to improve our services to the community. Only with your input can we provide the highest quality emergency services possible. The link can be found near the top of the home page. Click on the link to start the survey or on the following link press CTRL + click to follow link Please complete our short performance survey! Thank you for helping us to be the best that we can be. Can You Help? |
CAN YOU HELP ????
WE ARE MISSING A PICTURE !!!!!
After the Lane 2 fire, during the Crown King Fire
Department annual auction, Teresa Buhr won the quilt donated by Bernie Singer.
A quilt which held much meaning for Bernie. The women of the town rallied to
the cause and many donated - around $1800 was raised for the Fire Department.
When Teresa won the drawing she generously gave the quilt back to Bernie in a
very emotional moment during the auction. So emotional that nobody took a
picture of the actual moment when Teresa handed the quilt back to Bernie.
The ladies would very much like to have that keepsake
moment if a picture is available. It would have been during the CKFD auction
before the last, or the one held in 2008. PLEASE look at your pictures, your
kid's, friends, etc. and see if the town can come up with one.

A Bit of Crown King History
|
According to notes
written by Helen Harrington Sweet in 1930 In 1867,
the Tiger Mine was discovered and because of the richness of the ore a great
number of people mostly from California flocked into the country and, because of
the hostile Indians, they lived close together on the southern rim of the
basin. The population accorded to
Bradshaw City varies. The highest given
for the town proper being 1500, but those who received mail there shows as high
as 2500. From this figure in 1871, the
camp shrunk to about 600 in 1875, and from that number down to its complete
abandonment. The more
flimsy structures soon disappeared, but log houses were still standing in the
early 1900s. One in particular, an old
dance hall was built of logs hewn four-square and dovetailed at the corner with
a floor of whipsawed lumber planed smooth by hand, undoubtedly costing several
thousand dollars. This building was in
perfect condition until the winter of 1894 when heavy snow broke in the roof; the
walls stood until 1900 when it and other log buildings were wrecked and chopped
into wood for the Tiger Mill.

The Holidays in Crown King
|
The work began just
after Thanksgiving when the Santa Brigade decorated many trees on the main road
into town.
That was followed by the Cabin Crawl, the lighting of
Burke's Railroad Park and the Christmas Light Parade. After the Parade, Santa was even on hand with gifts for
all the children. Click here for photos!

School Christmas Program
|
Under the
direction of teacher, Cheryl Franklin, the 2009 Crown King School program on
December 16th was a huge success and well attended.
The theme of this
year's presentation was Christmas Programs past and present, featuring video
clips from past years interspersed with the singing of Christmas carols.
