Crown King Fire Department
|
The
Crown King Fire Department would like to thank everyone who helped
with, contributed to, and attended our Dinner Dance. This year's
Dinner Dance and Auction was a resounding success, despite inches of
pouring rain.
We appreciate all the folks who drove up and down in the
mud to see us and to enjoy the music of the Bradshaw Mountain Band and
our auctioneers, Dan & Jeanna Rousch. We are grateful for the
support of all the community businesses and friends who came and ran
things as we answered seven emergency calls. Thanks to the many
donations of goods, services, and help, and the generosity of the over
400 people who attended, we were able to raise the extra income
necessary to help fund many valuable projects.
This year's proceeds
will be used to supplement funding needed to continue our fuels
reduction program, decreasing the wildland fire threat to our community
and visitors. We also will be using the proceeds to provide training
and equipment for our volunteers, helping us provide the best possible
service for our residents and visitors.
We would not have been able to
accomplish all these things without the continued support of our
friends and neighbors. Once again, thank you for your help.

This Month's Contributed Article/Recipe:
|
From Colleen Pepper: Try this recipe from the Pepper Kitchen for your Thanksgiving stuffing:
Corn Bread, Green Chili and Nut (preferably pine nut) Stuffing
1 cup raisins
1/3 cup tequila
2-3 large fresh green chilies like Anaheims
6 tablespoons (3/4 stick) butter
2 cups chopped onions
1 1/2 tablespoons chopped fresh thyme
3/4 teaspoon dried marjoram, crumbled
3/4 teaspoon dried rubbed sage
1/2 1-pound round loaf sourdough bread, crust trimmed, cut into 1/2-inch cubes (about 4 cups)
3/4 cup pine nuts, lightly toasted. If you don't have pine nuts, use your favorite nut.
2 large eggs, beaten to blend
1 1/4 cups (about) canned low-salt chicken broth
Combine raisins and tequila in large saucepan. Simmer 5 minutes. Remove
from heat. Let stand until most of tequila is absorbed, stirring
occasionally, about 2 hours. Drain well.
Char chilies over gas
flame or in broiler until blackened on all sides. Enclose in paper bag;
let stand 10 minutes. Peel, seed and chop chilies.
Melt butter in large
skillet over medium heat. Add chopped chilies, onions, thyme, marjoram
and sage. Cook until onions just begin to color, stirring occasionally,
about 10 minutes.
(Bread,
raisins and chili mixture can be made 1 day ahead. Cover separately.
Store bread and raisins at room temperature; chill chili mixture.)
Crumble corn bread into large bowl. Add raisins, chili mixture,
sourdough bread cubes and pine nuts. Toss to blend. Season stuffing to
taste with salt and pepper. Mix eggs into stuffing.
Lastly, bake stuffing in either the turkey or a baking dish. Here is a link for both methods.
