HEADLINES...This month's top stories Resources for New Standards Development Activities
ASTM often receives requests for new standards development activities ranging from a single standard to a new technical committee. A new section of the ASTM Web site offers guidance for those who would like to initiate a request for a new standards activity, and includes relevant sections such as a list of information that is needed in order to make a request, ASTM's three-tiered process for creating new activity, and the resources ASTM has available for such requests. This new section will also include case studies from newer ASTM committees developed in the past 10 years such as Light Sport Aircraft and Property Management Systems. View the new activity pages here.

DID YOU KNOW? . . . Brain Injury Awareness The Brain Injury Association of America has designated March Brain Injury Awareness Month as part of their yearlong, nationwide education campaign: "A concussion is a brain injury. Get the facts." According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, an estimated 3.8 million concussions related to sports and recreational activities occur in the United States each year. Wearing a proper fitting helmet that conforms to ASTM safety standards is one of the best ways to prevent brain injuries. ASTM Subcommittee F08.53 on Headgear and Helmets has developed standards on helmets for a variety of sports and recreational activities, including football, ice skating, skateboarding, bicycling and roller skating, BMX cycling, pole vaulting, martial arts, bull riding and horseback riding. Visit the ASTM site for more information on helmet standards.
