Twas the day after Christmas and all through the house,
Every creature was hurtin' . . . even the mouse.
The toys were all broken; their batteries dead,
And Santa was passed out, with ice on his head.
And momma was sad with no holiday cheer,
Because of holiday bills she'd pay all of next year.
If you're tired of debt and substandard living,
Then pray for direction on all of your giving.
Get a Coach, a budget and a made up mind,
That you will NOT fail in your spending this time!
Does this sound familiar? Of course it does. Santa Claus is coming to town and all too often, he leaves with all of our money in his pockets. Well, not on my watch. Read on for a few holiday shopping tips to help you avoid spending beyond your means and to help you ensure that you start 2012 off on the right foot financially:
Holiday Shopping Tip #3: If you are buying something that you really wouldn't want for someone who really doesn't matter, then leave it on the rack. Don't try to prove a point when the only thing you may be doing is wasting your money on a gift that will never be used. The only thing worse than receiving a meaningless gift is buying one with money you really didn't have in the first place.
Holiday Shopping Tip #4: Shop early, but not too soon. Last minute sales can save you hundreds or even thousands of dollars. Compare prices and ask the retailer if they will accept competitors coupons. Scrub the internet for coupons that may not be in your local paper and don't forget to check the social networking pages of retailers where you plan to do your shopping. Better yet, if you won't see one of your gift recipients until after the holiday, then make your purchase during the "after" holiday sales!
