Lead When The Heat's On

Allen SpeegleWhether you lead a ministry, a business, a group, or your family, there will always be times of pressure when you feel the heat coming at you from circumstances, as well as from people. Shortly after Janice and I first began our ministry journey back in the early 80's, I soon found out what it meant to try and lead when the heat's on. I can remember how I felt inwardly when facing pressure. But there was no pressure more emotionally troubling than the heat  that people in our church were putting on me. I remember the sleepless nights as I played over and over in my mind conversations I had had with people, or things I heard through the grapevine. Now, some 26 plus years later, while I cannot say I never feel the heat, I can say that I am learning how to lead when the heat's on.

From My Heart To Yours

Our 2009 Safe Harbor Conference is now one for the history books. It always amazes me how fast our time together goes. But what sweet memories we now have written on our hearts! Allen and I are so humbled and grateful by your sacrifices to attend. We pray that ya'll feel like we do, that it was so worth all the work it took to make it happen! Our speakers were so on target and their messages so relevant for our lives and ministries. Thanks to all of you for allowing the Lord to share through you!  And our helps ministry team... what can I say!? What amazing, special people - people who took off from work, so that they could serve us! You guys are the cream of the crop! Thank you for your dear hearts to serve. I pray that each one of us who attended, will still be applying truths that we learned or that were reawakened in us when we join together again next year. Allen and I love you and we are so blessed to be walking this great journey with you. Together we really are making a difference. Many, many people are becoming aware of a loving, peace-filled God, through our joint efforts. Blessings to you and your families.  We miss ya'll!

Love,
Janice

The Power of the Gospel

Holding mass evangelistic crusades can at times be extremely daunting, especially when so many people come with an expectation of a miracle. As I cannot be confident in my own ability, communication skills or charisma, knowing that I don't have to perform is a great relief. I have learned that there is something I can have confidence in, whether I feel anointed or not.
Amazing Grace
by Rhea Mills

Rhea Mills"Amazing grace, how sweet the sound."  It is truly amazing how the grace of God and the ministry of Safe Harbor has changed our lives.  In 1982, Byron and I moved away from home right after we got married so that he could go to Bible school.  The Word of God was so fresh to us, so alive.  Then over the years our faith became a formula, and a non-productive one at that.  In the summer and fall of 2006,  a dear friend of ours, Blaine Bowman, told us of a church in Eustis, Florida that was holding a minister's conference in February, 2007.  He thought we would enjoy it.  Byron told Blaine he wasn't interested in another conference where we were told all the things we had to do to "grow" our church.   We were tired of being looked up and down and having our "faith" measured based on our clothing, our church size, our type of house, and so on.  We were tired of playing the church game with others.  We desired to find real people with real purpose.

Your Identity Determines Your Self-Worth
by Vic Porter

Vic PorterI grew up in a small Missouri town, raised by hardworking people.  My dad had been "farmed out" at the age of 13 which meant he had to quit school and work full time to make his own way.  This developed his belief system:  1. You'll have to work two or three jobs at a time to make it. 2.  Never challenge the system.  3.  Try to do everything people ask without making anyone mad.  Dad was a good man, loved and well regarded by everyone, but he instilled this belief system in all his children.

I struggled constantly in my Christian life until I learned enough to recognize the problem.  I was living out these same beliefs in my life; although I had gained revelation my Dad never had.  You can only imagine my excitement when, after pastoring for 15 years, I discovered that my performance had nothing to do with my righteousness.  Jesus' performance had made me righteous.

Steve Olivier and Life World Outreach will soon need a larger sound system as well as a bigger trailer due to the size of crowds their crusades attract, so if you would like to partner with Life World Outreach you can do by designating your gift to them through Safe Harbor.

Safe Harbor will also be taking a team on a mission trip this July to help Steve with a crusade and pastors conference in Zimbabwe.  For more information contact Shannon Carroll at shannon@fambible.org

Thanks, Allen.
