Harvested this morning!

 Sauvignon Blanc!

9/09/2009  Today we crushed 7 1/2  tons of our Sauvignon Blanc grapes which will become the first ever private label Beltane Ranch wine.  Our grapes have a long history of  going into notable wines from Cakebread, Kenwood, Chateau St. Jean and Kunde, and now grapes from the best block in our vineyard are being crushed privately and made in to 100% Beltane Ranch wine to be released next year!  To stay up to date on the project including the label, the release, tastings and next year's harvest, become a Founding Member in the Beltane Ranch Wine Club by simply replying to this email. We are beginning with Sauvignon Blanc and will add more red and white varietals in the harvests to come!

 Beltane crew picking Sauvignon BlancPicking....
We picked early this morning in prime conditions:  The clusters were still cool at dawn and the sugar was right about 24.6 Brix. The selected block for our private label wine is the north end of the Sauvignon Blanc on the far side of the creek from the main ranch house.   Check out the news page on our website for more harvest photos.

We hauled the 7 1/2 tons just down the valley to Macrostie Winery to be crushed...We are glad to keep our fruit right here in the Sonoma Valley!

 ......The Crush!Crushing Beltane grapes
By 10 am the clusters were dumped in to the crusher and over the next two and half hours the juice was transferred to the tank and the stems and seeds sent out to compost into fertilizer.  The juice will be racked and inoculated on Friday. After about week or so it will be split between French oak barrels and stainless steel tanks.
