Alex had a session with a delightful 82 year old gentleman the other day.  The saying "You can't teach an old dog new tricks" is clearly incorrect. You are never too old to make changes, all you need is a desire to do so. This is a good example for the rest of us, and hopefully an encouraging one.

Tom reveals the secret technique he mentioned last month.  The technique can be used to narrow down the many possible treatment options for what ails you.  Sounds like this will be a very handy technqiue to learn, and use.

Susan educates us on the subject of our aura.  I had no idea how our aura is a reflection of our physical body, and our physical body is a reflection of our aura.  Learning how to take care of our aura is quite simple and Susan tells us how to do it.  Here's to all of us having a glowing and healthy aura!

I write about the next Lees' family adventure which begins on December 13th.  Some people use the term destiny or fate.  I prefer the word timing.  And, it's time for Alex, Ty and I to start a new quest.  Another adventure awaits us!

Enjoy!

You Can Teach an Old Dog New Tricks
By Dr. Alexander R. Lees

One particular technique I've written about previously came in to play just the other day.  A friend referred his father to me, an 82 year old gentleman, for assistance with tinnitus.  After gathering the necessary information about his issue, it soon became apparent that he'd done quite a bit of research on the subject.

"I've perused this problem on the Net for a long time," he began, "and I've also talked with doctors representing various specialties, and the clear conclusion is, there is no effective treatment, nor is there any cure.  This is why I question why my son insisted on my coming here to see you about it."

Now, one could easily be drawn into an argument at a point like this, and one of the easiest ways to do that is disagree with the statement completely. That kind of response is a great way to destroy rapport, and probably any chance of trying to convince him as well.

"You can't teach an old dog new tricks, you know," was his apparent final word on the subject, as he sat back in his chair and simply stared at me.

One of the first things one wants to do in a situation like this is to tune into any generalizations that may have been presented, and the statement: "There is no cure" is certainly one of them.  For those unfamiliar with generalizations, a simple explanation would be that a rule has been created, an all encompassing one, usually based on a singular experience.

Example:

A fellow by the name of Harry comes home to find a note left by his wife, which reads:  "I've had enough.  John, as you know, is a very generous, giving soul, and we've been having an affair for some time. It has turned serious.  We have decided to build a life together, so this is goodbye. John has already turned in his resignation to the company, and you will be receiving the details from his accountant and his lawyer."

Now, let's stir the pot even more, and add that John and our hapless husband Harry were partners in a firm.  It wouldn't be a stretch to have him form the following belief: Women are gold diggers, and male friends can't be trusted. This is an example of a generalization, that is an incident with one woman and one guy becomes a statement about all women and all male friends.  If you would like an insight into change work, be it with yourself, or with others, train your ear to pick up on when generalizations are being presented, and deal with them first.

Back to our story.  My 82 year old client has presented two major issues. On the one hand, he wants relief for tinnitus, and on the other, there is a glaring generalization presented, and unless that is dealt with first, the chance of a successful outcome is severely curtailed.  So, what does one do now?

One could shift gears and introduce a technique for resolving inner conflict, called a Parts Negotiation Technique, but this time, I decided on another approach.  The generalization used by the client presents the problem as no cure, yet specifically, if you de-generalize it -- is that a word?   Well, it is now. :-)  The statement should read there is no cure known to the medical community.  And even then, I'm sure there are doctors on this planet that have had success in treating tinnitus, so we still have a bit of a generalization, but at least we can reduce the original generalization sufficiently to proceed.

"Well, Mr. Jones, I began, "from what you've told me, you haven't met a medical doctor that has been able to help you, and it sounds like your excellent efforts on the Net were mostly concerned with investigating medical information sites, is that a fair statement?"

"Of course," he responded. "Everyone knows tinnitus is a medical problem."

Oops. Just when I was beginning to believe my brilliance and professional intervention abilities were returning after a years' absence, I'm shot down with another generalization.

"Of course," I replied. "And those that do believe tinnitus can only be treated medically represent the largest group that believe they have tried everything without success, whereas those few that were flexible enough to look at other alternatives represent the group with the most relief. After all, if what I'm about to introduce you to doesn't work, then at least you can congratulate yourself for keeping an open mind, and giving it a fair shot."

"After a few seconds, he replied with, "You know, if this doesn't work, whatever it is you are going to do, then you could always start selling used cars, you'd be good at it."

Not knowing if this was a compliment, or he was just enjoying himself and having fun at my expense, I decided to offer him a brief explanation of the tapping technique, and, after having him focus on the tinnitus (which he reworded to "This bloody noise in my ear") I had him rate it on a scale of 1-10.   He picked 8 and we began a round.  His concentration was obviously excellent, for as I tapped the fourth button in the sequence, he suddenly exclaimed:  "It's a one!"

We completed the round, and I then explained the concept of the 'sweet button.'  We then began to explore the triggers in his environment, and the value in being specific when tapping for relief.  To his credit, he quickly grasped the concept, and asked:  "My wife likes to talk to me after she's left the room; she also likes to ask me questions with her head in the fridge.  I find it very irritating. I assume that's what you mean by triggers, is it?"

"You got it!" I replied. "Now, if you were in a classroom, you would go to the head of the class, and get yourself an 'A' and a gold star!"

I don't know if the ensuing laughter was a result of my phenomenal sense of humour, or simply from his relief at finding the tinnitus was greatly reduced  None the less, he certainly was much more relaxed, and now seemed to be enjoying the session immensely.

We then uncovered several more triggers, and I future paced him by saying: "Now, can you just imagine, sometime in the future, you are sitting in your favorite chair at home, or lost in thought about one thing or another, and suddenly, one of those irritating things we spoke about suddenly presents itself. The trigger has been pulled, and your nervous system, the one that used to become irritated, is about to be assaulted again.  What are you going to do?"

His answer was simplicity itself: "I'm going to tap for it," he said with conviction.

I checked on him several days later, just to find out how things were going.  "I haven't tapped for anything," he responded, and, before I could question this, he continued with: "The bloody noise in my ear doesn't seem to get above a one, so do I need to tap anyway?"

"I wouldn't think so," I replied, "but, do keep in mind, there are many things that irritate us, and the old blood pressure can go up, so feel free to experiment, and begin to notice where else you can use the technique, besides tinnitus."

"You really should be selling cars," he came back with," but thanks for teaching it to me, it's a wonderful tool, and I'm really glad to have discovered it."

Now, before someone decides to open a Tinnitus Reduction Institute, please realize that treating tinnitus can be a hit and miss situation, in the sense that not everyone will have a positive outcome.  As a matter of fact, I have perhaps dealt with some 30 or so cases over time, using the tapping, and the success rate was approximately 65%.  None the less, I would recommend anyone with tinnitus give the tapping a fair try.  After all, with a 65% success rate, who knows which group you will belong to after testing it out.

And again, please remember, the tapping is not limited to tinnitus, by any means.  It was perhaps the most often used technique by  Berit and I on our journey through Spain and Mexico.  It certainly helped us with the many adjustments we needed to make in the process of adapting to the cultural differences and the different ways of doing everyday things, that we have encountered in a variety of interesting ways and situations, along the way.

In the January edition of Reflections, I will introduce the Parts Negotiation Technique, so until then, enjoy the holidays, and we'll meet again in 2012.

Meanwhile, Happy Tapping!

The Importance of Your Aura
By Susan Stone

I became acutely aware of my auric field the other night.  I was at a concert (Smokey Robinson) and it was a huge crowd.  All of a sudden I realized that I was feeling woozy and I knew my aura wasn't intact.  So I zipped my self up quickly and immediately felt better.  We are now in the season of large gatherings, crowded shopping malls and public events.  This is the time to make sure that your aura is intact.

Our aura is an extension of our physical body.  It mirrors our physical body in many ways, even though it is invisible.  It is an extension of our thoughts and feelings.  It absorbs energies from our environment and acts as a filter and protector of our body from negative energies.  It is comprised of many different layers (like a Russian doll toy) each with its own function.  In addition it has multiple spheres.  A component of our aura is our chakra system which extends out from our body into our aura.  Our chakras act as receivers, transmitters and storage receptacles of ourselves.  In total our aura is a multidimensional woven entity that when it is healthy, protects us very well.

Yes, we need to protect and take care of our aura.  Our aura is a reflection of our physical body and our physical body is a reflection of our aura.  You may be thinking at this point, "Oh, another thing to take care of!"  It is true, that it serves us well to take care of our auras.

How can your aura be hurt?  Our own negative thoughts, stress, lack of sleep, taking care of others and not taking care of yourself, these can all impact your aura.  The same things you feel, affect your physical body, affect your aura.  Plain and simple.

What happens to your aura is that it can lose its tightly woven integrity; it can develop tears, holes, become detached or collapse.  You may not know which of these you might have, but if you're not feeling well, have a lack of energy; you want to consider your aura.

How do you take care of your aura is very simple.  There are a few movements or exercises that are crucial.  One is the "Celtic Weave"; the other is "Connecting Heaven and Earth".

The Celtic Weave:  Strengthens your aura by building its energetic integrity.  It builds into it the figure 8 patterns, which is at the basis of a healthy aura.

1.  Start with your hands on your thighs, take a nice deep breath.

2.  Rub your hands together and shake them off.  Try to feel the energy generated by your hands by placing your palms facing each other in front of your face. Rub your hands together again and shake them off and hold them close to your ears.

3.  Bring your elbows together in front of your chest and cross your arms and swing out to the side.  Cross them again but around your waist and swing your arms out to the side.  Bend forward and do it again in front of your ankles.

4.  Bend your knees slightly and swing your arms back behind you and with your palms facing forward swing our arms up to swoop up the energies of the earth up over your body and pour the energy down over your body.

Connecting Heaven and Earth

1.  Start with your hands on your thighs, fingers spread.

2.  Inhale through your nose, circle your arms out, and bring your hands together in a prayerful position.  Exhale through your mouth.

3.  Inhaling through your nose, stretch one arm up and the other arm down, pushing with your palms.  Hold, exhale through your mouth, and return to the prayerful position.  Repeat switching arms.  Do this twice for each arm.

4.  Drop your arms down, fold your body forward at the waist, and relax with your knees slightly bent.  Take two deep breaths before slowly returning to a standing position.  As you come to a standing position move your arms in a large figure eights.

Connecting Heaven and Earth helps clear stagnant energy from your body and auric field and brings in fresh energy.  It helps the flow of energy through your joints and helps with grounding!

Zip Up consists of running your hand up your body from your pelvic area to your lower lip.  You can do it on your body or a few inches away from your body.  Imagine you are zipping up your aura to protect it from any negative outside influences.

Why Parents Drink !!

The boss wondered why one of his most valued employees was absent but had not phoned in sick one day. Needing to have an urgent problem with one of the main computers resolved, he dialled the employee's home phone number and was greeted with a child's whisper.

'Hello?'
'Is your daddy home?' he asked.
'Yes,' whispered the small voice.
'May I talk with him?'
The child whispered, ' No .'

Surprised and wanting to talk with an adult, the boss asked, 'Is your Mummy there?'

'Yes'
'May I talk with her?' Again the small voice whispered, 'No.'

Hoping there was somebody with whom he could leave a message, the boss asked, 'Is anybody else there?'

'Yes,' whispered the child, '  policeman.'

Wondering what a cop would be doing at his employee's home, the boss asked, 'May I speak with the policeman?'
'No, he's busy,  whispered the child.
'Busy doing what?'
'Talking to Daddy and Mummy and the Fireman,  came the whispered answer.

Growing more worried as he heard a loud noise in the background through the earpiece on the phone, the boss asked, 'What is that noise?'

'A helicopter' answered the whispering voice.

'What is going on there?' demanded the boss, now truly apprehensive.

Again, whispering, the child answered, 'The search team just landed a helicopter.'

Alarmed, concerned and a little frustrated the boss asked, 'What are they searching for?'

Still whispering, the young voice replied with a muffled giggle... 'Me ..'

Where Do I Start? Part 2

By Tom Dorzab

I have just checked to make certain that the statute of limitations has indeed run out on the secret technique I promised to reveal this month. I'm happy to say that the secret can now be revealed with no sanctions required.

If you missed last month's article, the technique I'm speaking of can be used to narrow down the many possible treatment options for what ails you. The only catch is that you must first be able to energy (muscle) test you or your client. For energy testing basics, please review the April 2008 edition of this newsletter.

Now we're ready to begin. The technique is called the Finger Modes and this is how it works. First we will be testing various energetic systems of the body by placing the tip of a finger against the tip of the thumb on the same hand. Then we will test while making a fist with one hand with the thumb inside the fingers. While these points are touching, an energy test is performed.

A weak test indicates a problem of some sort with the particular system being tested. It also indicates that this system is, at the moment at least, probably the most important system you could be working with.

Let's begin with the Electrics System. Place the tip of the little finger against the tip of the thumb and perform an energy test. If the result is a weak test, then you probably will benefit most by working with the Electrics System first.

When the tip of the ring finger is placed against the tip of the thumb, a weak test indicates your primary problem at the moment is related to the nervous system or emotions.

A weak test when the tip of the middle finger is touching the tip of the thumb means metabolic, nutritional or sensitivity (allergies and other sensitivities) problems are likely at the root of your current problem.

If you get a weak test when the tip of the index finger is touching the tip of the thumb, then a structural problem is most pressing in your choice of interventions.

And finally, when you make a fist with the thumb encased in the other fingers and it results in a weak test, then your biggest problem at the moment is with your aura.

Since all the various energy systems are interrelated, the number of possible correcting interventions may surprise you. If you would like to learn more about some of these systems, please refer to Energy Medicine by Donna Eden.

While there are probably at least 10 possible interventions for each of the above weak tests, I have found through experience that certain interventions, at least up to now, have always strengthened the test that had earlier tested weak.

In the case of a weak electrical test, this simple but sometimes lengthy technique will normally do the trick.
  • Place the tips of the thumb, index finger and middle finger together of each hand.
  • Then place these fingertips of one hand about one inch above the left nipple. This is known as the heart electrical point.
  • Place the same fingertips of the other hand at about the intersecting point of a line drawn across the pubic bone and along the groin line on the right side.
  • Press in firmly with the fingertips of both hands and maintain this position until you first feel heat and then cooling of the fingertips. You might as well get comfortable, because this process can take quite a while. It has normally taken me from 10 to 20 minutes to finally feel the cooling of my fingertips, but it could take longer.
Before you can finish the rest of the technique, you will first have needed to purchase two small ¼ inch size or so pieces of hematite. Hematite is a shiny silvery mineral when polished and can usually be found in gem shops. They are also used in jewellery and can sometimes be found in necklaces or bracelets in the jewellery section of department stores.

Once you have noted the heating and then cooling of your fingertips, place one piece of hematite in the little depression on the outside edge of the little toe of each foot (Bladder 66 if you're familiar with acupuncture points). If you're doing it to yourself, you can do one foot at a time. If you're doing this to someone else, it's easiest to have the person on his back with you positioned at his feet.

I hold the hematite on the Bladder 66 point until I feel equal pulsing in my fingertips. Then I move backwards away from the bottoms of the feet until the hematite is at the same level as the Bladder 66 point, but 15 to 18 inches away. Stay in that position until you feel the equal pulsing again.

That's it. Pretty simple eh? A retired American biologist living in Spain can do it, so I'm guessing just about anyone can do it.

If you had energy tested the state of the meridians, chakras, 5 elements or performed other energy tests prior to doing this technique, and if you held the points long enough, you would probably find most, if not all of the problems have been corrected after performing the technique. Anxiety is often at the top of the list of symptoms relieved by this simple technique.

This kind of generalized effect is not at all uncommon if the correction you have chosen is at the foundation of the problems you have been experiencing.

You have just completed the first class in foundation repairs. We will continue your schooling in subsequent articles until you have graduated from the energy medicine school of basic foundation repair technology. Stay tuned.

Berit's Corner
Berit Lees

The year 2011 has been quite a year for the whole world and personally for Alex and I.  We have had one adventure after another.  Many have been fantastic and a few were not so good.

We did two international moves to two different continents, all with our doggie, and we survived.  I say "survived" because both times we had a rocky arrival at our new destination.  When we landed in Madrid, Spain, our plane was the last to land because the air traffic controllers had gone on strike.  We were part of the thousands of travellers stranded, and it was also a national holiday!  All the hotels were full and renting a car was impossible.

About five hours after landing and some serious negotiations (I begged and I cried) we finally got a hotel room.  The next day, after more begging and crying we were able to secure a rental car and drove for six hours to the coast to begin our new life in Spain.

We found a lovely house to rent and started to settle in.  There was only one glitch - the weather did not co-operate.  Climate change had come to Spain, as well as the rest of the world.  It was bitterly cold!  After several months of sitting very close to the heater, and many discussions about what we wanted to do, we decided on a new quest.

We were going to find the place with the best weather.  After much research, we found it - Lake Chapala, Mexico.  So, off we went.

Hola Mexico!  Our first accommodations upon arrival presented a few challenges.  But, things have a way of working out.  While speaking with a friend in Spain, she volunteered she would speak with two friends in the Lake Chapala area and see what they could do to help.  The next thing we knew, we were arriving on their doorstep with six very large suitcases and one dog.

We were welcomed with hugs and kisses, tea and food, and then shown to our bedroom.  For the next week, we were pampered and spoiled.  The caring and affection our new friends Enriqueta and Carolina showed us helped us to recuperate.  We will always be grateful to them, and cherish them as a friends.
Berit, Caro, Queta & Alex
Berit, Carolina, Enriqueta and Alex

That was our first experience of the warmth and generosity of the Mexican people.  We have had many such experiences since.  It's the people of Mexico that make the country.  Time and time again, we have been helped by total strangers, who wanted nothing from us, and would not accept any payment for their help.  They helped because they wanted to.

The weather here is perfect and the Mexican people are lovely.  So, why are we leaving?

I believe in timing and our time here is coming to a close.  A new adventure awaits us, in a different place.  We will remember our time here very fondly, and we cherish the new friends we have made.

We are getting ready to leave Lake Chapala and say Adios to Mexico.  We will be in our new home after Christmas.  Please stay tuned for stories about our next adventure!

Till next month,

Take care.
