Three part construction is the foundation for durability and longevity

material

Our Pillows are made from durable, heavy duty, industrial strength fabric commonly used by the military. A woven polyester scrim that is coated on both sides with a polymer alloy is the foundation to the material's strength, stability, and durability. Historical use and lab testing shows UV resistance of 20 + years.

Proven performance results:
After over 17 years as a holding basin at a large oil company in the Texas desert, the material has shown no signs of environmental stress cracking, thermal expansion/contraction, or strength problems. Temperature ranges from near zero to over 100 degrees F.

The material was exposed for over 12 1/2 years in Sarasota, Florida, on a weathering rack, facing the southern direction. No significant color loss, cracking, blistering, or adhesion delamination failure of the coating was noted.

In service approximately 17 years in a solar pond application at a research facility in Ohio, UV exposed samples, as well as immersed samples, retained over 90% of the tensile strength. Examination of the material determined there was little effect on the coating compound.

Installed in 1984, the material is performing as well as it did when it was installed 25 years ago.

Highest tensile strength and puncture resistance in the industry.

Installation of The Original Rainwater Pillow is easy.

What is your Rainwater Collection potential?
Length x Width of your collection surface multiplied by .625 will give you the gallons per inch of rainfall you can collect.

The Original Rainwater Pillow is an innovative rainwater collection system designed to be stored in horizontal wasted space  ( crawl space, under deck or porch, bottom of parking garage).

We can manufacture any size pillow to your specifications up to 40,000 gallons.

Our Residential and Commercial system design service provides you with a complete Rainwater Harvesting solution that meets your site specific requirements and goals with an economical solution.

    Rainwater Harvesting
The Passive and Active Approach

The growing interest in conservation has motivated many people and businesses to explore the practice of rainwater harvesting. There are two different approached to rainwater harvesting: active and passive. The active approach diverts rainfall and stores it for later use in various catchment products including  pillows, above  ground tanks and cisterns. Passive rainwater harvesting is a natural approach to slowing down and controlling the flow of rainwater thus allowing it to infiltrate the soil.
Passive techniques include :
Earthworks - includes creating berms, bio swales, rain gardens. A swale is a depression or ditch. Many are dug perpendicularly, "on contour," to the slope using the excavated soil to create a berm down slope.  Rain gardens are shallow basins used in the landscape to collect water and create areas of water penetration around groups of plants.  These types of  infiltration basins will detain, purify and slowly release water to the surrounding plants and into the groundwater supply .
Permeable surfaces -  curb cuts, permeable pavers. These types of surfaces allow natural infiltration of rainwater into the surrounding environment reducing storm water runoff and pollution.

Simply directing the gutter downspout or overflow from an active rainwater collection system into a passive rainwater system will greatly increase the volume of water you can control.

The best sustainable systems are designed with a combination of active and passive rainwater harvesting systems.

We just finished a shoot of an Original Rainwater Pillow installation at a home in Boston. Massachusetts.. The 650 gallon pillow was installed under a deck. The collected rainwater will be used to irrigate the homeowner's garden.
The segment will air early 2010. Stay tuned !
