Dear Friend of Canyon Ranch Institute,
As a reader of this newsletter, you know that Canyon Ranch Institute and our partners are collaborating with diverse communities to help redefine health in terms of disease prevention. This month we want to highlight two CRI partnerships that focus on empowering young people to prevent disease and experience optimal wellness. While you're reading about these partnerships, I hope you're enjoying an October full of happiness and good health. If you aren't feeling as joyful or as healthy as you want to be, please keep reading for inspiration!
Our newest partnership is with BSCS (Biological Sciences Curriculum Study) and will develop curriculum for students in grades K-12 to help advance health literacy about preventing and managing type 2 diabetes. The project is funded by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Disorders and recognizes the fact that as obesity rates in children continue to soar, type 2 diabetes - a disease that used to be seen mostly in adults over age 45 - is unfortunately becoming more common in young people.
For over 20 years, Canyon Ranch guests have experienced the life-affirming Life Enhancement Program (LEP) offered in Tucson. Today, the CRI LEP transfers the best practices of Canyon Ranch to underserved communities. Young adults participating in the CRI Life Enhancement Program (CRI LEP) in Cleveland are learning how to prevent chronic disease. The CRI LEP in Cleveland is a partnership with Cleveland Clinic and is the first CRI LEP focused exclusively on young adults. Click here to read about some very committed young people who are redefining what "health" means to them - and how to get it!
On behalf of all of us at Canyon Ranch Institute, thank you for your continuing support of our programs that help empower all people to prevent disease and embrace a life of wellness. If you would like to learn more about how you can become involved, please click here or contact me.
 In Good Health,
Jennifer Cabe, M.A. Executive Director and Board Member, Canyon Ranch Institute Jennifer@canyonranchinstitute.org
