Buzzworthy...

Note: If you click on blue highlighted items throughout the newsletter, you'll be directed to a website!

A very happy 2012 to you, oh fabulous Buzz readers! And welcome to year FIVE of The Local Buzz! Both statements are quite wondrous to me, I must say.

Let's get to it!  Since the last issue, Arena's has opened a fourth location in Bayshore Plaza in Long Neck/Millsboro. Love their breakfasts, nachos, and $5 sandwich special in Lewes every Tuesday. Also new to Long Neck is the Rainbow Buffet, an Asian restaurant that opened next to Harris Teeter, 945-1718

The liquor store next to Superfresh has sold and is now called Pacific Wine & Spirits. Ashwin Patel, the new owner, plans to greatly expand the current wine and beer selection. 644-7080

Registration is now open for Osher Lifelong Learning classes. If you're not familiar with it, this is a terrific University of Delaware program for ages 50+ offering travel opportunities, social events, and classes (pay one fee and take as many classes as you like). Arts, International Studies, Science, Math, you name it! In Lewes, 645-4111

On 2nd Street in Lewes, Circa Home has closed and The Cottage (one of my FAVE shopping spots) will be expanding into the Circa Home space. They will reopen Feb 10. Congrats Sally!

The Charcoal Deli (next to Gelato Gal) on Route 1 will move into the space vacated by Zorba's (next to Food Lion) and become the Charcoal Grill. At the opposite end of that same shopping center in the space vacated eons ago by Blockbuster, will be The Delaware Stage School.  They'll be offering jazz, ballet, hip hop and other happy feet activities.

Pat's Pizza has their sign up and are moving right along in the space vacated by Five Guys in Lewes (near my beloved BLING!) Another pizza chain from Millsboro, Pizza Palace, will be going into the spot vacated by Ledo's in Rehoboth. ENOUGH WITH THE PIZZA ALREADY!!! (oops!  did I say that out loud?!) Sorry...  I would just LOVE an Indian restaurant... just ONE!

Go FISH is opening Go Brit in the former Deli 88 space sometime in February.  Similar menu but with counter service. (In Coastal Plaza across from the Lewes Bethany Blues)

Now open on Savannah Road in Lewes, near my friend Bryan Hecksher's Auto Gallery is Piccadilly's Consignments, 827-4446 and The Pet Station (grooming and day care) 644-7297.

The Atlantic Books sale continues until they close - currently 50% off anything in the store.  For those of you like myself who are into the woo woo stuff, John Edward is coming to Wilmington in June.

Did you know that Victoria's restaurant in the Boardwalk Plaza hotel offers a traditional afternoon Tea? My friend Donna and I went and LOVED it! Other recent fun finds include Patty's in Georgetown which has amazing soups, sandwiches, prepared foods and cookies (Greer highly recommends the roast beef/herbed Boursin cheese sandwich), 253-8692.  Also never noticed the fireplace at The Point in Rehoboth before, but if this weather continues, you'll know where to find me! And EVEN THOUGH IT'S PIZZA, I love the new wood fired oven pizzas being offered at Touch of Italy in Lewes!  (Read the review here by the Rehoboth Foodie) Speaking of Touch of Italy - I can't WAIT for their new bakery opening in the Villages of Five Points (also in Lewes). Never met a carbohydrate I didn't like.

Relocating... Jack's Dog House is moving near Surf Bagel in Lewes. It's a very cute shop for treats, toys and apparel for your four legged friends currently located at Cave Neck Road and Route 1. 270-9200.  Lewes Pizza moved from their Savannah Road location to just across from the Dairy Queen, 644-8211. Symmetry is leaving their Baltimore Avenue location and moving to Rehoboth Avenue a few doors south of Grub.

The Delaware History Trail was launched on December 7 to showcase some of the state's historical landmarks. Of the 36 landmarks, 12 are located within Sussex County.

LOVED the headline in the Cape Gazette for Dec 16 - "Sussex ends year with $3.4M surplus".  Wonder if they'll reimburse some of my 2011 contribution to the parking fund??!!

And on that note... wishing you all a very magical 2012!

Head shot

In case we haven't met, my name is Deb Griffin and I'm a Realtor with Maggio Shields Real Estate. I've been living at the beach full time for six years, and I love it! Every day I learn more about the area and its resources, so the Local Buzz was created as a way to share information with visitors and newer residents like myself.  I donate a portion of my commissions to Safe Haven Animal Sanctuary, Sussex County's no-kill shelter.
