Greetings!

Hard to believe that it's the first day of February when it's 70 degrees outside!  Since we're of the belief that winter is still going to show up this year, we're not taking advantage of the warm spell to prune, but are working in the office instead.

We're excited and proud to say that the December 28, 2011 edition of Wine Enthusiast Magazine featured North Gate Vineyard in its article "Top 10 Wine Travel Destinations 2012: Virginia".

The article describes Virginia as "an excellent wine destination on the East Coast," noting specifically the scenic drives of Loudoun County and Charlottesville. North Gate is the first listed vineyard in the "Where to taste" section, with special note made of our solar-powered, LEED Gold tasting room, handicap access, and live music.

The article is part of a series featuring local vineyards, inns, restaurants, and activities in pockets of wine country nationwide. Other featured Loudoun County vineyards or restaurants included Tuscarora Mill, Tarara Winery, Sunset Hills Vineyard, and The Restaurant at Patowmack Farm.

Read the full article on the Wine Enthusiast website.

We've also joined Virginia Green, a program sponsored by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality to promote environmentally-friendly practices in the tourism industry.  This program encourages recycling and waste reduction, energy efficiency, water conservation and minimization of pesticides, herbicides and fungicides in the vineyard.  We are happy to join our neighbors Sunset Hills, Delaplane, and Barrel Oak and hope that more wineries commit to being more green!

Trellis Club - first shipment/pickup
Our Wine Club has been developed and we're planning our first pickup party for Saturday, February 18th.  We'll have live music by The Clay Shooters, and special tastings and snacks for club members only in the winery.  Not to worry - if you're not a member yet, there's still time to sign up.  Just stop by, call, or print our registration form and send it in.

What is the Trellis Club?  It's our version of a CSA - Community Supported Agriculture. When you join the Trellis Club, you join our quest for excellence and commitment to sustained quality. It is our members' support that will power the North Gate community and keep our vineyard thriving. North Gate Vineyard will ship the winemakers' choice of 3 bottles of wine per quarter at a cost of 15% off retail price, plus shipping and handling. You may choose to pick wines up at the winery and save on shipping charges.

With your membership, you'll also receive:

-A 10% discount on non-club purchased wine and a 20% discount on cases.

-Free tastings for members plus one guest per visit.

-Once per quarter, a complimentary group tasting for the member and up to three guests. (Appointments required)

-Advanced access to first releases, specialty club wines, unique reserve wines, and the ability to purchase limited quantity wines.

-Invitations to member-exclusive events such as special release parties and wine dinners.

-Priority notification about and discount tickets to specified North Gate events.

-Occasional special offers with your shipment.

-A members' newsletter with each shipment.

Full details are available on our website.  Sign up and plan to join us on February 18th to meet your fellow Trellis Club members, enjoy some delicious snacks, and toast the new year, new friendships, and a bountiful 2012 growing season.

We're coming up on our first year anniversary of having our tasting room open to the public, and couldn't be more pleased.  We have met and shared our wines and our space with so many wonderful, interesting people.  We've talked about our green building, and have encouraged others to add green aspects to their homes and businesses.  We can't wait to see Solar4Leesburg's installation at Endless Summer Harvest!  We're looking forward to offering more music on Saturdays, and staying open later on Fridays as the weather gets nicer in the spring.

Thanks for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Mark and Vicki Fedor
