rr10booth6th Annual Read and Romp A Success!
Reach Out and Read-South Carolina held its sixth annual Read and Romp Family Benefit Event on Sunday, October 10th at the South Carolina State Museum. The afternoon was a great success, and brought families together to enjoy books and celebrate literacy. Nearly 225 children participated in the event, and proceeds raised more than $7,000 to support the ROR program in South Carolina. All proceeds will be used to purchase books for our programs throughout the state. rr10bunny

True to the mission of Reach Out and Read, the Read and Romp event demonstrated to families the fun and enjoyment that books bring. At Read and Romp, children were engaged in fun, learning-based activities themed around favorite children's books, including Goodnight, Gorilla, Fancy Nancy, and Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs.  Children were able to visit with their favorite local characters - Cocky and Richie the Raccoon. The event owes its success to wonderful champions of the Reach Out and Read-SC program as well as to the more than 70 volunteers and sponsors who made this event possible.

Reach Out and Read Launches New Leyendo Juntos Video!
LeyendoOver the past few months Reach Out and Read has finalized new materials for the Leyendo Juntos (Reading Together) initiative designed to support the over one million Spanish-speaking families Reach Out and Read Programs serve nationwide. This includes literacy materials for parents, handbooks for doctors, a Spanish-language website, and an informational video, narrated by actress and children's book author Julianne Moore.

86% of Reach Out and Read Sites nationwide serve families whose primary language is Spanish. Reach Out and Read medical providers are in a unique position to develop a trusting relationship with families early in a child's life because they emphasize the importance of language, storytelling, and book-sharing to Latino families (in any language). Studies show that non-English speaking parents who participate in Reach Out and Read are 10 times more likely to incorporate reading into their daily activities with their children.

Watch as actress Julianne Moore narrates how Reach Out and Read impacts the lives of these families.
