Greetings!
Trust in a relationship is created over time and through experience. But what if one partner makes a mistake and betrays that trust? Is it possible to repair the relationship? Hopefully, yes, if both parties are committed and willing to put forth effort. Besides forgiveness and atonement, what else may be required? Transparency.
Most people don't like to admit their transgressions much less have them obliquely referenced by way of request for transparency. But aquiescence to the request is, in fact, a step in the trust-rebuilding process. If the forgiving partner asks for more than the usual communication in order to be informed of the other's whereabouts or wants to see the phone bill or have access to the email or social networking sites, so be it.
I've heard from clients, "But, I've told him/her I wouldn't do it again. Why won't they believe me? I don't want to have to prove myself over and over." Proving oneself after betraying trust is the price to pay. Accept it, learn from it and begin the repair process by willingly complying with your partner's request for openness. If you're committed to your relationship, what other choice do you really have?
If you'd like my help in creating an enduring and fulfilling relationship, give me a call at 763-1888, ext. 17 or email me for a complimentary coaching session.
All the best,
