Ready to Tackle the Chores Together? Without Arguing? |
|

I'm going to share with you one way you can have an immediate impact on the relationship with your partner. First, pay close attention to the words you use with your partner. Do you find yourself nagging, blaming, criticizing, complaining, bribing or threatening in order to get what you want from your partner? Does it work? Oh, maybe in the short run, but what does it do to your relationship in the long run? Before you engage in such deadly behaviors, stop and ask yourself these questions, "Is what I'm about to do or say going to improve our relationship? Will my words or actions move me closer to my partner? Let your answers be the guide. You may be thinking, "But if I don't nag, none of the chores around here will ever get done." Well, the chores may get done, but at what cost? Instead of nagging about getting the lawn mowed, for example, how about asking your partner to sit down mid-week and talk with you about the chores that have to be done over the weekend. Come up with your list together. Then, together decide who will do which chores as well as the time-frame for getting them done. And, please keep in mind that this is a partnership of collaboration - not a my-way-or-the-highway kind of approach. With each person's input being respected, it's less likely that anyone will feel like they're being controlled or coerced. If you follow these action steps for the next two weeks, I'll bet you'll start to see a difference in the quality of your relationship. Send me an email and let me know how it goes! Better yet, reserve your spot today for the Empowered Couple Workshop beginning April 6.
