| Giving the Gift of Time |
|
| With the holiday season upon us and the shopping frenzy at its peak, take a moment to think about how you're spending your time. Does the way you're spending your time support your values? Thinking about our children, how do you think they would like for us to spend our time? Baking cookies for Grandma, scrabble by the fire, or a family talent show, perhaps?
One of my clients decided to spend time creating new family traditions. She asked her son, a six-year-old, if he would like to plan and cook (with her help) one of the family meals. His spaghetti tacos, a unique dish of his own making, is now a tradition and a treasured memory, all because of his Mother's dedication to spending quantity time with her son, and yes, in a quality way.
If you're not spending time with your family and friends the way you truly want, you can change what you're doing. Here are some action steps to get you started.
1) Assess how you're currently spending your time. Actually write down the minutes of the day and plug in the activities/people.
2) Now evaluate how you've been spending your time. Do you truly value the activity? Is this activity moving you closer to the people you care about? If you continue doing this activity, what opportunities are you saying 'no' to?
3) If you'd like to make some changes, and I've never met anyone who doesn't (including me!), write down on your calendar your new activity. Then, figure out what support you need to make it happen (supplies from the store, cooperation from your spouse, input from the children, etc.)
4) Now, enjoy, and remember "Time and Tide wait for no man."
And, if you're in the new tradition mode and are looking for a sure-bet family recipe for holiday cookies to make with your children, here's one you'll love! From my house to yours, Happy Holidays!

Ready for the New You in 2009??????
Losing weight can be a struggle, and keeping it off can feel like a losing battle. We know that exercise and
nutrition go hand in hand when losing pounds as well as maintaining a healthy weight. What we didn't know is how important personal coaching can be to the long-term success of any exercise and diet program. According to a large clinical trial sponsored by the National Institutes of Health, personal coaching proved the most beneficial by the end of the 2.5 year study. This study, the largest and longest-lasting trial to date testing different strategies for weight loss maintenance, compared the success rate of three approaches: personal coaching; an interactive web-based program; and self-directed maintenance.
Personal coaching was the winner!
If personal coaching is so great for weight-loss maintenance, it's probably even better during the first few months when losing weight can seem like an up-hill battle. That's why Shawn Manning and I have teamed up to offer the best-ever weight-loss and fitness program around. Shawn's the fitness guru and I'm the person to help you keep your head on straight. As a coach, I know how to support you during the tough times - I've got the coaching skills, but I've also been there and understand your struggle. In the last 6 months - just since I've been working with Shawn - I've lost twenty pounds! And, I've dropped two dress sizes! I know your resistance to getting started - I remember how hard those first few weeks were, and now, as I'm winding down to my maintenance level, I also understand how easy it can be to lapse back into bad habits.
2009 is right around the corner. Are you ready to make a New Year's resolution and stick to it? Just think about where you could be next year at this time IF you reach your goals. Shawn and I are here to help you get there. Contact Fran or Shawn today and make a real difference in the quality of your life!
