Focus on Health Before the Holiday Rush November 2009

We all know it is coming, that crazy thing known as the holiday rush.  It's a time of the year you may love or dread, but it cannot be stopped.  Be sure to focus on the health of you and your loved ones for a couple weeks before the holidays because it just might not be possible to do so until the new year arrives.

elliecat Pre and Post Holiday Cleansing
Now is the time to focus on a healthier lifestyle.  The days in early November until Thanksgiving tend to be part of a slower, less stressful time for many of us.  School is back in full swing, the holidays are not yet upon us, and the weather is gently cooling.  Before the busyness begins, why not spend some time focusing on yourself?  If you can start the holiday season with a cleaner, leaner, more relaxed body, you will be at a much better place, come New Year's Day, than all those people who plan to play "catch up" and "new beginnings" after a season of overindulgence.

Years of improper diet and the build up of fat-soluble toxins such as xenoestregens, petrochemicals (gasoline, dry cleaning fluid), mercury and pesticides reduce the body's ability to release fat stores.  Without proper elimination and blood flow to the tissues, the body will hold on to it's fat stores.  This build up can also line the intestinal walls making it difficult for the body to absorb nutrients.

So where do you start?  That's easy--you start with a cleanse.  With so many different pills and programs on the market, though, the decision making process may be overwhelming.  There are several directions you can take, from an intense fruit juice 10-day program, to a program of pill packets that are taken at specific times of the day.  For those of you who are new to the cleansing world, or just want a program that does not require a whole lifestyle change, consider the pills.

One product I highly reccommend is Nature's Sunshine Dieter's Cleanse which comes in a 2-week supply. Dieter's Cleanse is a safe, convenient and effective program.   Product elements provide dietary fiber, support the production of digestive enzymes and bile, nourish the liver and glandular system, promote detoxification and support the body's weight-management mechanisms.

For a Pre and Post Holiday cleanse, use for one week in November and one after New Year's Day.  To keep things moving during the holiday season, Bowel Detox and Clinical Colon Cleansing are supplements that one could take daily.  They include fiber to absorb toxins and move waste through the system, chlorophyll to balance colon pH, cleansing/detoxing herbs.  Both are mild, but effective.
Happy Cleansing Days!

elliecatSo Why Does Your Brain Need DHA?
It seems everyone knows that fish oil or essentail fatty acids are an important
factor in good health, but do you know why?

DHA is a highly unsaturated essential fatty acid. It's one of the "good fats."  DHA is a major structural component of the retinal membranes, the nerves and the brain and it benefits the body in many ways.

Depletion of DHA in our brain can lead to:
- depression
- anxiety
- lack of focus
- loss of memory
- bipolar disorder
- ADHD
- Hyperactivity
- other mental disorders

DHA cannot be produced by the body on its own and must be obtained from the diet. While it is almost impossible to safely get enough DHA through diet alone, due to mercury contamination, there are fish oil supplements available that can help you obtain enough DHA to be beneficial. DHA is critical to brain development in the womb and in the first five years of a child's life.  The brain triples in size in the first year of life and continues developing rapidly for the next four.  DHA is also very important in eye development in the womb.  Another benefit to new mothers is a much lower rate of post-partum depression, an effect likely due to all of the mother's DHA going to her unborn baby to protect him and aid in his proper development.

Good fats can also lower bad cholesterol rates and raise the good ones, as well as lower blood pressure.

With all of these benefits and a coupon to boot, today is the day to stop by our office and pick up some DHA.
