Reduce Fraying
When Prewashing
Quilt Fabrics & Other Wovens

The only way to eliminate fabric fraying during the prewash is to serge or zig zag the cut edges.  I know from experience, however, that we are sometimes in too big of a hurry to finish the edges before tossing our fabric in the washing machine.  To reduce fraying during the prewash, cut off about 1/2" from the corners of your fabric.  This cuts the long threads that run continuously through the selvage & prevents miles of frayed threads from accumulating during the wash cycle.
