A simple e-mail popped into my box, like any other. This one however, was from my friend and client Mary Tribble: an invitation for a WomenTrek in Peru. Without asking my husband or checking my calendar for gala events or family birthdays, I quickly responded, "I would love to come." I pressed send and that was that. I was going. This was for me. I have traveled to unusual places in my life and actually thrive on that breath of air from far away places that feed my soul and imagination. The need to connect with other people so different yet so similar is compelling and it brings to life fresh ideas, new creations and unusual gifts from our earth to your table.

So, this coming week I will journey to Peru for a solo excursion in the Amazon jungle along the Madres de Dios River for some anaconda and butterfly walks, treetop adventures with monkeys, healing rituals and more wildlife hiking/canoeing through the rainforest. I will meet up with Mary and eight adventuresome women in Cuzco and Pisac for a spiritual retreat and trekking in Machu Picchu and the Valley of the Incas. I will venture away from the group again and take a train through the Andes Mountains and end my journey on Lake Titicaca for some high altitude kayaking and exploration. According to the Incan mythology, this is the place from where the world was created, when the god Viracocha came out of the lake and created the sun, the stars and the first people. This sounds like the perfect spot for my creative well to replenish . . . a place for the Green Goddess to connect again with Mother Nature at her source and release the jungle of vines that have bound in the past! I can only begin to explain that recently I've been searching . . . possibly for some meaning, a higher purpose perhaps or even more joy if that is even possible. You see, I am in a really good place: I love my work at Something Classic/Community Café, I have two great kids and I am blessed with a husband who makes me tingle when I see him. I garner great satisfaction from serving home-grown lettuces from my garden, slow-cooking onions and garlic while sipping a glass of red wine in my kitchen, bringing to life a new menu, dressing my garden with finished compost that I transformed from scraps, practicing yoga and playing some aggressive tennis on occasion. This year in particular, I have invited into my life a personal and business coach, workshops on leaderships and empowerment, forty days of transformational change through yoga . . . the need to stretch my limits and rejuvenate has been an undeniable driving force. I have come to realize that I have all the answers I need from within. I know what gives me joy. But the need to connect to the earth with others and create something new to bring to the table, literally, is vital for my being. This is where I shine! This coming October will mark the 20th year of Something Classic with my partner Karen . . . a great accomplishment in the food business! We have been connecting with you, our customers and friends, over the past two decades, bringing you our favorite creations from our own histories and far away places. We invite you to join us on our journey over the next decade. This coming year, we will celebrate our past connections and look for new adventures to come. Please join us for our celebrations, large and small. If you want to follow my journey to Peru over the next few weeks, please do so on our Facebook page. Otherwise, please feel free to email me directly at jill@somethingclassic.com. Jill Marcus Founder, Green Goddess Alliance President, Something Classic & Community Cafe
